He turns and walks off without looking to see if I’m following him; the supreme confidence of someone who is used to being obeyed. I stride after him. Aza must have really gotten under his skin for him to be assigning me to babysit her.

We follow the paved pathway back to the winery, then around it and across the huge courtyard to the hotel. Several staff stop and stare, wondering who I am. I notice the courtyard is mostly empty now, and the last of the humans are being ushered toward the exit. It must be some power play of Aza’s to arrive early and force Sebastian to shut down the winery. I flick my gaze over to him. I imagine he can’t be happy about that, but he seems calm for the most part. But then, he doesn’t seem the type to be easily rattled. Unlike whoever it was that called him when we’d been in the wine cellar.

As soon as we enter the hotel, I hear a loud moaning coming from down the hall. For a moment it sounds like someone in pain, but then the sound changes and I realize it’s not that kind of moan. Not that kind of moan at all.

Sebastian stops in front of a doorway that opens onto a huge ballroom. I stop and stare for several moments at the scene before me. This I was not prepared for.

“Ah,” I say. “I see what you mean by delicate situation.”

“Yes, Aza does know how to make an entrance, I’ll give her that.” He turns to look at me. “So, you, my delicious creature, get to do what I wish sorely I could right now. But duty calls... I need to accelerate my preparations since I’ve now lost a day.”

“And what exactly do you want me to do?” I raise a brow.

“Join the fun but keep an eye on Aza. I want to know right away if she leaves this room.”

“Why don’t you just tell her to leave?”

Sebastian meets my eyes, and another suggestion of thought passes over him, too fast to read. “I want to keep her happy,” he says. “But I also don’t trust her. These are the games we demons play.” He runs his fingers down my arm and I shiver. “I want you to be my eyes and ears. Can you do that for me, Luciana?”

I nod.

“Good.” He steps closer and the scent of his cologne washes over me. “I think you’ll fit in nicely here.”

Then he turns and strides off, casting me one final glance before turning the corner ahead.

I take a deep breath, gathering my courage for what I’m about to do. Talk about being thrown in the deep end. Flirting with my new boss is one thing, but joining an orgy?

Anything it takes to bring down the Night Guild.

Squaring my shoulders and putting on my best seductive smile, I walk into the room.
