“Brother,” he says, his dark eyes burning into mine. “Good morning.”

We don’t look related aside from the same tallness and slim build. His skin is pale where mine is dark, and his hair is golden where mine is night. We’re opposites in so many ways.

“Morning,” I respond.

“It begins, then.” He gazes across the courtyard. “We’ll seal the fate of our family name over the next few days. Secure our power for centuries to come.”

I nod. “It will be hard-won, but I’m at your side.”

“Hard-won indeed.” Caspian’s face twists into a scowl. “I have troubling news.”

“Oh?” My eyebrows shoot up.

“Apparently, it’s not just the other demon families we have to contend with. The Raven Society has plans to interfere as well.” A lash of dark power encircles us as Caspian’s eyes burn with rage.

“How do you know?”

“My spies tell me the private jet of one of the top society members landed here in Napa yesterday afternoon. It can’t be a coincidence.”

My eyes narrow. “No, it cannot.”

“I don’t yet have further details on their plan,” Caspian says, “But we’ll need to remain vigilant so we’re ready when they make their move.”

“Of course, brother.”

But I already know more than he does. Because someone else had arrived yesterday afternoon, which is also not a coincidence.

Now I know who Luciana is working for.
