“Not. Her.” I say through a clenched jaw.
His magic intensifies a moment. He’s standing only inches from me, and our gazes are still laser-focused on each other. One fist clenches and unclenches at his side.
And then, abruptly, Caspian smiles and his magic fades.
“Whatever you say, Sebastian. We have bigger problems to deal with this weekend. We must present a united front or it will hurt both of us.”
Always playing that family loyalty card. We’re in this together or we’ll be destroyed. Us against the world. Funny how that works as long as he still gets to call the shots. But he knows he needs me to gain leadership of the Night Guild.
“See you at the party,” I say, my tone making it clear the conversation is done.
Caspian shoots one last smile at Luciana and strides from the room.
I wait until his footsteps have retreated before finally meeting Luciana’s gaze. “Are you okay?”
“Yes.” She takes a deep breath and lets it out. “I’m fine. Thank you for intervening.”
“You’re sure?” I walk over until I’m standing in front of her. The intensity of the protectiveness I feel for her surprises me.
She smiles and nods.
“My brother is a giant dick.” My jaw clenches again, and another flash of rage moves through me.
“He kind of is.” Luciana lets out a breathy laugh, her anxiety rushing out of her.
“I’m sorry about that.”
“It’s not your fault.” She shrugs.
We stare at each other a moment, then Luciana places her palm on my chest. I can feel the warmth of her skin through my shirt.
“You two seem very different,” she says softly.
I don’t say anything for a moment, my mind skimming through the long centuries with my sibling. “I suppose we are.”
“I’m not leading you on just because you’re my boss,” she says abruptly. “I’m quite capable of saying no if I don’t want to do something.”
“Yes, you illustrated that very succinctly.” I smile. “Your magic is… quite strong.”
A blush creeps over Luciana’s cheeks.
“So, then,” I say, stepping closer to her. “Are you trying to say you’re lucky you have a boss who also happens to be hot and charming?”
She smiles. “Something like that.” She slides her hand around the side of my chest and pulls me against her, closing the last bit of distance between us.
I lean in and kiss down the side of Luciana’s neck. She lets out a sigh as my lips trail down her body, along her collarbone and over the tops of her breasts where they peek out above her dress. I continue my downward trajectory, dropping to my knees and sliding my hands up her thighs, shimmying her dress up. My kisses continue over the soft skin on the inside of her knee.
As they travel higher and my head goes under her skirt, Luciana lets out a sigh and a groan of pleasure. “Sebastian, someone could walk in…”
I pull my head out and look up at her. “Are you saying you want me to stop?”
Luciana’s eyes dart to the door, then back to me. She bites her lower lip and worries it between her teeth, then shakes her head side to side.
“I didn’t think so.” I grin and shove my head back under her skirt.
