Good grief. “I don’t work for Caspian!” I yell over the raucous. “I work for Sebastian!”

“Same difference!” snarls a nearby demon.

A couple of the demons take steps in my direction, and the looks on their faces tell me they’re not up to anything good. My magic pulses out around me, pure demon magic, all heat and raw energy.

“Back the hell up,” I growl. I can feel my eyes burning with flame, and my hands glow red.

I keep my eyes on them as I take my own advice and back slowly for the door. They watch me warily but don’t follow. Across the room, insults and spells are ricocheting between demons in a total free-for-all. What the hell have I gotten myself into?

My chest relaxes slightly as I sense the door behind me. I grope for the knob, but instead my fingers hit a solid wall of flesh. Heart freezing in my chest, I turn around slowly.

“Thanks for stopping by,” says a huge demon with orange spikes protruding from his forehead. “Caspian wants to see you. And you went and strolled right into my arms.”
