Luciana angles her body toward mine. “Can I confess something?” she says in a voice that purrs like a lioness.

“Demons are rather fond of confessions,” I murmur. My fingertips move between the small of her back and her ass, along that line where one bleeds into the other, the hint of roundness in her flesh.

“I actually came here today hoping to get a job.” Her hazel eyes flick up to mine in a look that’s somehow both imploring and dangerous.

I suppress a ripple of surprise, keeping my expression neutral. “Oh, really? And why would you want to work at Inferni Paradisi of all the wineries in the area?”

“I just moved here. I’m a wine enthusiast. You serve the supernatural community. And your reputation is unparalleled.”

She bats her long lashes at me demurely. Man, she’s good. Which, of course, means that she’s a spy.

But for which of the demons coming to the summit?

A ding from the wine chiller tells me it’s ready, but I don’t take my eyes off Luciana. I pivot to face her so she’s pressed up against the table, my arms resting on either side of her. Her breath is warm on my face, and she smells like citrus and jasmine. Slowly, I run one hand up the outside of her thigh, sliding her black skirt up.

“You should know I sleep with all my favorite employees.”

She smiles, unfazed. “You should know I prefer women. Most of the time.”

It’s a gauntlet thrown, a challenge I can’t resist. This witch is going to be fun. I’ll keep her close, find out who she’s working for. As the saying goes, keep your friends close.

And always sleep with your enemies.
