Chapter Five

Sophie

I woke up the next day to my throbbing but sore sex. The memories from the last night filled me for a second but I realized I overslept. The warm shower hitting my skin didn’t help me ease but it was needed. Before I could wet my hair, the doorbell rang. Grabbing my phone, I realized I’d probably be late, and it was already 9 a.m.

I breathed out in frustration as the doorbell’s ringing echoed through the hall again. “Oh my! Shit!”

Wrapping myself in a towel, I ran for the door, ready to apologize to Tibby. Ensuring I was covered, I popped my head out of the door, and my face went deadpan when I saw a beautiful young brunette standing next to Molly.

“Hi, did…did we catch you at a bad time?” her voice was like honey as she tried not to look at my towel.

“Oh! I’m so sorry, just, just, give me one second.” I slammed the door closed and ran back to my room. Throwing on the first shirt and jeans I could find, I fixed myself a bit and went back to greet the uninvited guests. “I’m so sorry I was just getting out of the shower.”

Molly gazed at the woman momentarily, “see, I told you she was beautiful”

The slender brunette’s hand caught Molly’s shoulder, “Yes, she is.” She then addressed me, “My name is Cora, and this is Molly.”

“Yes, I met Molly yesterday,” I saw her eyes and my heart sank. This is his wife.I’m officially the other woman!

“Yes, Miles told me that he was taking her with him for his first big day.” She explained.

Filled with sadness, I couldn’t bring myself to think how I could ever let that bastard do this to me. Snapping out of my thoughts of killing him in seven different ways Molly’s eyes lit up. “Guess what? we will be neighbors!” She hugged my leg in excitement.

“Okay, Molly, let’s get back to making cookies so this young lady,”

“Sophie,” I added for her.

“Right, Sophie can finish getting ready.” She gave a fake expression, but her face looked alarmed.

Plastering a fake smile on my face I cheered, “yes, it was great meeting you, and if you need anything, just let me know.” Without hesitation, I closed the door and leaned against it. My face turned red thinking about how he felt inside of me, and the anger took over quickly. How could he do that? I was startled as the doorbell rang again. Oh no! What if she asked me if her husband was here last night? What will I say? I can’t lie to her.

As the door went open again, I saw Tibby standing there with a cappuccino in her hand. Sighing in relief, I tried framing a faint ‘thank you’ as she handed me my favorite caramel cappuccino from a local shop just down the street.

She greeted with that usual warm chortle of hers which normally made my day, “Good morning, you’re late…” She yelled before taking a step inside, “what the hell are you wearing?”

My eyes met with hers and tears ran down my face. I leaned on her trying to find the support my body needed after just realizing that I’d been betrayed last night.

Her black suit felt so good to touch, and I could feel her hands embracing me, with terror in her voice. She began consoling, “Okay, now, now. I’m sure the worst things have happened.” Pulling back from our embrace, I went towards the back porch and she followed closing the door shut. As soon as we reached the large chair I sat down and she waved her hands up in the air submitting, “I’m going to call Drake.”

“No, don’t. He is a traitor.”

“Okay, well, honey, I’m not good at making people feel better in bad times. I silently curse out other drivers all day.” She took a seat across from me and relief broke through my teary face listening to her feeble attempt of cracking a joke. This time, we both jumped up as the doorbell rang again.

I let out an annoyed grumble as she waved her hand gesturing that she would answer the door. I started wiping those tears off my face when she came back with a bouquet of carnations and lilies which must have had at least fifty flowers.

“Looks like you have an admirer.” Tibby marveled at the beauty of the carnations while teasing me at the same time.

Although, it felt like a sting and before she could finish, I snatched the flowers out of her hands pounding them on the table repeatedly. The flowers were still mocking me, unharmed by my assaults, so I found a better way. I threw them at the glass door in front of me with full force. Tibby’s face went pale with horror, while she still held the wooden basket without the flowers. I ripped it from her hands and stormed off towards the dock.

“That bastard has some nerve,” I screamed throwing the basket into the lake. Tibby froze where she stood. I dropped to my knees covering my face with my palms, grunting hard against them to stop a fresh stream of tears from my eyes.

“Listen, do you need me to call someone, like maybe a doctor?” Tibby sounded genuinely concerned this time.

I couldn’t gather myself to reply to her with anything, but I realized how crazy I looked. My company flashed into my head, “oh my god! He is the fucking CEO.” Tibby stepped back and I rushed back into the house. Slipping on the first shoes I could find, I ran out to the SUV driver’s seat and took off, leaving Tibby at my home.

Pulling up at the private entrance, I made my way into the office and threw the doors open to his room. He stood up with a smirk on his face, but that quickly disappeared when he noted my oversized Beatles sweatshirt, ripped jeans, and shower shoes with a red face and swollen eyes from the tears.

“Are you okay?” his face went anxious at once. The face of a perfect cheater!
