“You know, it’s been a long day. I think I’ll just call it a night.” Walking back to the house in absolute silence, I thought how good he was. He was everything a woman could dream of?sexy, charming, respectful. He made me care about nothing except for the moment we were living at that time. Reaching back to the room, he curled up on the couch, and I slipped into the bed.

“Good morning.” My eyes fluttered open to the sound of Cole’s voice. I smiled before opening my eyes, thinking it was a dream until I felt my left side warm. Quickly jumping up and opening my eyes, my forehead hit Cole’s face.

He howled in pain, “shit!”

“Oh my gosh! What are you doing standing over me like a creeper?” Looking at his hands, my eyes widened even more as I saw his hands covered in crimson.

“Shit!” I jumped out of bed and ran into the bathroom, grabbing toilet paper and a towel. He was sitting on the side of the bed holding his face when I pushed him back and started applying the towel and cleaning up the blood. His face was cleaned up, but blood still dripped from his nose. Reacting swiftly, I balled up the toilet paper and shoved it inside his nostril. He started laughing, and my face softened as I joined him.

“I’m sorry if I’m interrupting something.” A familiar voice reverberated.

Both of our faces turned to the doorway to see Asa in his wet suit. My face blushed when I realized I was straddling him wearing my sleep teddy. Cole threw the towel towards him as he walked away. Just as I went to stand up, his hand grazed my lower back. “Before getting my head bashed, I wanted to ask if you wanted to go somewhere with me in town tonight.”

My face lit up, and I stayed on top of him. “Yeah, I would really love that.”

We held our gaze until I felt his hand move. My entire body felt aroused by his touch. This man was dangerous and I was going to do something stupid if I didn’t get his touch off me. “I guess I’ll get off of you now.” Then, smoothly lifting me to my feet, he stood and left the room. He was wearing swim trunks which was odd because he didn’t get in the water. Though with Cole around I decided to learn surfing that day.

Walking out to the kitchen, I noticed fresh fruit stuffed into the basket kept on the counter, but the space was empty. The chalkboard on the wall had a message on it: ‘Help yourself, I’m going to the market- Love Meg.’ Grabbing an apple, I made my way to the beach where Asa and Brody were in wetsuits and boards. Cole was looking out to the waves. It was just the four of us, so I guessed Stephanie and her friend had slept in.

“Can someone teach me to surf?” I beseeched as I met them on the beach.

Brody volunteered, “well, I’m a pro you know, so of course.”

Cole’s stern voice interrupted sharply, “no, I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

“I’m sorry, who are you to tell me what to do?”

Brody and Asa glanced at each other before bursting out into a laughter. Asa high-fived me, “hell yeah! Sister!”

“It’s fine, baby brother, you know I’ll ensure nothing happens.” Brody and Cole oddly looked at each other. It had a vibe that I couldn’t quite pick up on.

Without thinking much, I jumped in straight to the task. “Okay, well, what’s the first step?”

After a thirty-minute exchange and some balancing on the board, we left Cole on the beach and made our way to the waves.

Brody directed, “paddle hard and dive under the waves.”

Working my arms and doing exactly what Brody said filled me with thrill. The saltwater hit my face, and I never had felt more alive. It was an odd feeling borrowing with the massive ocean, no longer the top of the food chain as a playground. We waited for a few waves, and Brody turned my board. “Okay, this is it. Paddle hard and fast. Once you feel the front of your board lift smoothly, get to your feet and feel the wave.”

Looking back at the beach, my eyes met with Cole’s which had a dead look in them. He flinched a little as I paced with the wave.

“He’s fine.” Asa assured but he wasn’t talking to me, he was looking at Brody. Following the instructions, I paddled hard, and it was like my body knew what to do just in sync with the wave. The next thing I knew, I was standing but not long as I plummeted under the wave, my body swinging in all directions. I started kicking and thrusting my arms faster. The water from underneath resembled black clouds. Finally, I came up for air but before I could take a deep breath, I was sucked back down. My body rumbled and after a few tosses, I couldn’t tell which way was up. I needed to get out fast. My head began spinning and I felt light headed. Keeping in my arms and legs, I was starting to run out of air. I knew at least a minute had passed. Feeling scared I suddenly felt a hand grabbing me, pulling me to the surface.

Sliding onto my board, I turned to see Brody helping me on. His voice sounded alarmed, “are you okay?”

I held up my thumb as I coughed out water from my lungs. After settling on my board, I turned to see Cole in the water beside me, sitting on a surfboard. “You do know how to use that thing,” I joked, but my voice stiffed as he reached over to cuff my face.

His voice shook a little, “you scared me, are you sure you’re okay?”

“Yes, Brody saved me” I laughed in his direction. Brody and Asa both had a shocked look on their faces, looking at each other and then back to me.

He pulled the side of me next to him as he embraced my upper body. Our board’s side by side, we waded in the Ocean. His touch was full of compassion and warmth.

“Don’t ever scare me like that again. I can’t live without you.” His face was scared, his voice trembled, as the words left his mouth. My heart flipped inside as he pressed his forehead to mine. In pure reaction, my lips slammed into his. It was strong and passionate. My hands moved to his neck, and his hands cupped my face. His tongue slipped between my lips, and I caressed mine onto his. Electric shock filled me, and our kiss grew hungry. Then, opening my eyes and pulling away. He looked at me and we wanted to go in for more. I pushed off his board and paddled hard towards the beach.

My feet hit the sand, and I ran towards the house.
