Chapter Thirty

Colton

Sitting at the coffee shop waiting to see her come out, I was on my third cup of coffee. The man who owned the shop checked in on me often but allowed me to process the day in peace. Sophie’s lawyers made a statement concerning the events, and the last reporter was packing up to leave. My phone buzzed, and I was quick to grab it, hoping it was her. Instead, an email showed up, and I opened the app to read it.

Dear Colton Shaw,

Thank you for your recent purchase of Boss Babe Incorporated shares. The legal team has approved your additional voting power as a stakeholder, and regular updates will be sent on the business trends and allotments. Unfortunately, your employment with Forever Fitness LLC has ended due to your investments within the business and conflict of interest.

It has been brought to our attention that you are in several contracts with your employer that exhibit this behavior. The first contract involving the CEO, Miles Calvin, has been terminated immediately, with no additional contractual agreement. The second contract with the CEO of Boss Babe Incorporated stands, and all contractual agreements are upheld. Funds from the contract will be deposited in your account by the end of the business day.

If you cannot uphold this final contract agreement, you must inform Boss Babe Incorporated before the end of business hours. Any questions or concerns, please ensure you direct all communications to Sophie Dash with the contact information listed below. Again, we thank you for your commitment to our company and look forward to working with you in the future.

My heart sank but a familiar scent passed over me. “Is this seat taken?”

My heart jumped out of my chest as her beautiful eyes peered down at me. Dropping my phone, I reached up to grab her hand and help her take a seat. My eyes didn’t leave her, and she looked amazing, different.

“Martin, I’ll have the usual,” she called over to the owner who was standing not far from us. “Come here often?” She asked softly.

Unable to collect my thoughts, I ran my fingers through my hair. “Yeah, although I’m only sitting here because I can’t afford to pay for my drinks.”

She smiled. “Really, well, are you good at doing dishes?” Her humor made me feel light.

After a few moments, I decided to ask what had been on my mind for the past 48 hours. “How are you feeling?”

Knowing that I was talking about her pregnancy, she looked down at her hands before meeting my eyes again. “Morning sickness sucks, and I’m starving all the time.”

My stomach formed knots listening to the changes. “I’m hoping that you will tell me it’s mine?”

She paused at my question. “Yes, but I’m okay if you want a DNA test to prove it.”

“That’s not needed.” I gazed at her shaking my head. I didn’t really care, it was my baby, my family. The silence was broken when Martin set down a large glass of chocolate milk. Leaning back, looking at her hands wrap around the glass, my grin widened. “Never took you for a chocolate milk fan.”

“It’s all I have been craving,” she added. Something about listening to what my baby was directing her to drink and eat made me excited.

She handed Martin her card. “I'll pay for his drinks as well.”

Embarrassed by the gesture at first, I was grateful. She chimed, “Let’s play a game.”

“I like games,” I retorted with a challenging voice.

“It’s called 20 questions. You get 10, and I get 10. After the game is over, the conversation ends.” Not really knowing how to feel about the last part, I nodded in agreement.

“I’ll go first. How much money did Miles pay you to distract me?”

Leaning back, I realized the game wasn’t going to be fun, and I took a sip of my coffee. “Nothing yet, but he offered me $100,000. I’m pretty sure he was the one that tried to kill both of us by blowing up my boat. He wouldn’t have had to pay me the money and he could take over your business all in one act. Not that I can prove it.”

She looked down at her hands, and I could tell that she was disappointed in the money part and already figured the other piece out. “Your turn,” she said, keeping the game going.

“Okay, how many times did you fuck Miles after coming back from our trip?”

Her face dropped, and I could tell that she was shocked that I asked. “Not even once.” She shifted in her seat, and it made my heartburn even more for her. “How many times did you fuck Jamie and why?”

Settling into this game, I adjusted. “Twice and because she was pushy, and I did what any guy would do when a successful woman just wanted to fuck.” Not liking my answer, she glared at me. “How far along are you?”

Shifting out of the past, I could see the excitement in her face. “I’m ten weeks.” Swiping my hands, trying not to show my happiness, I watched her gulping a little more from her drink.

“How much money did you buy in Boss Babe, and how did you get it?”

Not wanting to share this information, I looked at my phone for an excuse. She immediately gave me a look to call me on my bullshit. I exhaled, “I sold it all, my new boat I purchased with the insurance money from the explosion, the camp which Maverick has wanted to buy for a while and he will do great things with. Also, my car and I had a few stocks in a previous company I worked for that I cashed out. Total, seven million.”

Her face went deadpan. I continued, “I did that the day I found out you had been expecting and called Mr. Yang to find out when the meeting was.” The air cracked as the tension in the room shifted. Her eyes started to tear up, and the last thing I could bear was seeing her cry. Martin brought over the check, in which she signed, and quickly gathered her items.

“Wait, we are not done with the questions.”

She stood fighting the tears falling down her face and walked into the street. I followed her, trying to understand what had just happened.
