“Yes! Might be a coincidence but…”

“OZ doesn’t believe in coincidences.”

“Exactly!”

Neither did I. Nefarious pirates were snooping around my wreck site at the same exact time that a potential human trafficking upstart was systematically taking down the drug cartel which controlled routes in the Amazon. Both of these entities traced back to the same corporate umbrella. Question was, how else were these two things connected, because it certainly didn’t all hinge on The Winkies.

“Great work, Gray.” I pulled out onto the ridge road, heading toward the airport. “Send me everything you have and I’ll put fresh eyes on it.”

“I will, but there’s more, Zee. The part I don’t know how to tell you. Are you sitting down?”

It wasn’t like Gray to be evasive. “Just say it.”

“It’s about the sicario taking out Alverez’s cartel.”

I pressed my foot on the gas as if I could outrun this news and make it on the plane before it ever hit my ears. The wind whipped at my hair as my stomach cramped.

“Zee, I’m sorry. It was Michael Cooper. I know, I know, I didn’t want to believe it either. We all love Coop. But there’s proof.”
