“The hell I don’t. I want your freedom as much as you do. Maybe more. But this isn’t a pleasure dive. Nik and I have enough to focus on without adding the safety of a third party.” Not to mention I had plenty to worry over with my own damn self.

“I’m a skilled diver, Coop. Scuba, sky—”

“I’m well aware. But we’re going to be tearing into an already unstable wreck site, setting explosive ordinance. I can’t be worrying about your safety and do the job you’ve brought me here to do.”

Zee wrapped her hand around my biceps. “I’ll worry about my own safety.”

I really wished she wouldn’t look at me with those big round eyes when she was touching me. It worked too well. Especially when her lower lip, darkened and full from a long night of loving, was suddenly shiny and beckoning for me to plunder it. No, no, no! I just had to fight fire with fire.

“That’s not how this works,” I said softly.

“How what works?”

I stroked a strand of silky black hair off her forehead with my pinkie as I cocked my chin and looked down at her. “How we work, Presh.”

Yep, that did the trick. The hard resolve in her chocolate eyes melted like marshmallows in cocoa. Which was a damn good thing, because my own doggedness when it came to giving in to Zee was mushy at best.

She set down the equipment and narrowed her eyes as her lip jutted out. “You fight dirty.”

The way she drawled that last word out made my dick twitch.

“You had no problem with dirty last night,” I growled in her ear.

“Mmm, no, I sure didn’t.” She popped up on her tiptoes, a slight pout on her lips opened in invitation. “Promise to hurry back to me?”

I stepped into her and wrapped my fingers around the back of her neck. Hauling her body against mine, I kissed the shit out of those sweet-tasting, dirty-deed-doing lips. Then in place of any promise, which would’ve been just another lie, I gave her my heart instead. “I love you, Zee. No matter what happens, know that.”
