Page 3 of Their Chosen Mate

I listened as Jonah set out the search teams. We had three top-notch trackers and a couple more that were good but still training to be the best. That gave us five search groups. Miguel handed out the maps with the quadrants marked one to five. Each team would take one quadrant and search in a fanned pattern, the tracker always in the middle and just a few steps ahead.

My phone rang, and the name on the screen had me quickly walking outside.

“Hey, boss,” I answered.

“Diego told me what’s going on. Kat’s worried to death and wouldn’t stop nagging until I called.” I could hear the smile in his voice. “I know you have things under control, but anything you need, it’s yours. Call Casey if you need backup, Alaska as well. Kat also wanted me to remind you that Molly’s bond is strong. Use it if you can.”

“Yes, sir.” I hadn’t tried to contact Molly. I would have Miguel try; he had a better relationship with the little girl than me.

“Good, let me know when our girls are home.” Leo hung up before I could reply.

I rejoined the search group once all the calls had been made. The sun had already set, and the security lights and parking lot lights had come on.

“We are going to move outside the walls to shift. There, we will split up.” Jonah tapped the side of his head. “Check in every fifteen minutes with myself and Niko. Trust your trackers. Follow their lead. We’ll find our girls in no time.”

“I sure the hell hope you’re right.”

“Niko!” Miguel ran back to me. “She just responded to me. She hasn’t found Molly. I told her to stay put, and we would find her.”

I reached out through the bond myself, “Amelia, if you don’t stay where you are and let us find you, I will take you over my knee when we get you back.” She didn’t reply, just threw that mental wall up again, shutting us all off.

“Damnit,” I muttered.

“What?” Miguel leaned toward me, his eyes full of worry and an underlying need. I responded to both.

“Nothing, she threw that damn mental block back up.” I pulled Miguel into my embrace, saying with my body what I couldn’t say with words at that moment. I looked around at everyone realizing what I had done and quickly patting him awkwardly on the back before releasing him. I moved my fist in a circle above my head and pointed toward the jungle, sending the teams into action. “Let’s go.”
