Ishouldn’t have slept over. I should have gotten on my bike and hightailed it the fuck out of there. But I didn’t, and now, I’m the one doing the walk of shame.

“Where the fuck were you last night?” Bishop asks.

See what I mean? These guys are as nosy as women.

“I didn’t tell you?”

“Nope.”

“Must be none of your fucking business then,” I reply with a grin, snatching a piece of his cold pizza for breakfast.

“You’ll lose your ball sac if you try that shit again.”

I roll my eyes. “Seth around?”

“He’s out in the garage.”

I don’t waste any time heading outside. We don’t appreciate cops sniffing around. Not when we have an operation going. And if they’re sniffing around Peppermint, it won’t be long before they move on to the bar and the club.

“Hey, man, I need you to look into something.”

Seth shoves the rag he’s holding into his back pocket and takes the card from me, furrowing his brow. “What the hell is this?”

“There’s a cop looking into Dean’s disappearance.”

“What about the other Souls?”

“Didn’t ask about them. Only Dean.”

“I can check into it. Where’d he give you the card?”

Ah, I knew he would ask that. Seth is older, mid to late thirties. No ol’ lady. No kids. And I can trust him to keep his mouth shut. He’s been in this club nearly as long as Mason. He’s not the type to run around gossiping about who I’m fucking.

“He came to Peppermint’s house. Said he was canvassing the area.”

“That’s bullshit. Dean had an apartment in the city. Wasn’t even close to her area.”

“I know. She said something didn’t seem right, and I told her I’d check into it.”

“I’ll do some digging. He might be wondering where his paycheck is,” Seth says.

“Let me know what you find out,” I reply. “Oh, and don’t mention where I was. Don’t think she wants everyone to know we’re hanging out.”

“My lips are sealed,” he assures me. “You should probably ride over and let the Eagles know there’s some cop looking into what happened to Dean. Give them a heads up.”

That’s the last thing I want to do. I don’t like Owen and his fucked-up arrogance. We’re all cocky as shit, but there’s something about him that rubs me the wrong way. Like he thinks he’s better than me.

“I’ll take care of it.”

I’m not a prospect anymore, but if an elder tells me to do something, I’ll respect him and do it. We all have to pull our weight around here. I can’t ask for someone else to do something I’m more than capable of. Might as well get it over with.

I hop on my bike and take off. The Eagles’ clubhouse is on the other side of town, them covering the north side while we take care of the south.

The ride does me some good. Helps me clear my head. The only thing — only person — who’s been on it lately is Peppermint. I thought once I fucked her, I would move on. That my thirst for her would be satisfied. If anything, I’m a dehydrated bastard and need more and more.

This is supposed to be about sex. Not foot massages and spooning and sleepovers. Not wishing I was still there with her.
