I couldn't believe my ears. This woman had the nerve after hearing all of Phin's story about living on the streets that she would think I was some gold digger. I've worked with her for over three years on charity projects. How dare she! My mouth just pushed into gear, and my brain couldn't stop it. Phin walked around the sofa to join me with a smirk on his face when he realized I was about to mow down my future mother-in-law.

I pushed myself up from the sofa and was standing over her, unable to control my rage.

"Mrs. Dunbar! I can't believe you! After the story you've just heard from Phin, you'd stand in the way of him being happy? I've worked with you for the last three years. I find it hard to believe how people's greed and selfishness can blind them to the natural love they have for their children. I convinced Phin to see you because I didn't want to believe you could be the bitch who starred in his life story. Boy, was I wrong! I tried to justify your terrible neglect of your son because I thought Phin should have a relationship with you and maybe someday that monster you call a husband!"

My hands were clenched at my sides, my fingernails dug into my palms about to draw blood as my body trembled with indignation.

"I've changed my mind. You and your husband can suck a bag of dicks! Our kids will always know what it's like to be loved and cared for, even if we aren't rich. Phin is an amazing man, no thanks to you. He and I will make it together, and my parents will help out because they are loving and caring people. If it makes you feel any better, I'll sign a contract that keeps me from having any of your stupid money. I loved him when he was homeless and just needed me to love him back. Phin, I can't stay here any longer. I will be in our room."

I stormed out of the living room, trying to avoid slapping her resting rich-bitch face as I marched into our bedroom. Slamming the door, I leaned against it and tried to catch my breath. Shit, was all I could think as I left Phin out there on his own with that woman.
