“Whatever happened to him?” I asked.

“He moved to Milan and became a model,” Linley said.

“What?” I shouted.

“No, it’s true,” Linley said, pulling out her phone to show us all.

“You’d think this would be bigger news,” Paige said as we all looked at artsy shots of the guy who’d set the pig loose in school. He’d grown up on a farm (where he’d gotten the pig), so he’d come a long way since school.

“Seriously,” I said, and got up to get another drink. I was supposed to drive myself and Natalie home, but I had plenty of time to sober up, and I was only drinking spiked seltzer anyway.

“It’s so weird being back,” Natalie said, sitting back on the couch. “So much is the same as it was.”

“Oh, did you hear that someone is going to be fixing up the Honeysuckle Inn?” Linley asked.

“Really? That place is so sad. Did someone buy it?” Esme asked.

“I guess,” Linley said. “The only reason I know is because some people came into the bakery to order food and we could tell they weren’t from around here. Mom did her thing and found out they were appraisers here to do a property assessment. They wouldn’t say much more than that, but I’ll keep my ears open.”

Interesting. The Honeysuckle Inn had once been the jewel of Castleton and had been a thriving business all year round. It had access to a little private beach and one of the most beautiful views in the entire state. The owners, a married couple, had died about ten years ago and the property fell into disrepair. They didn’t have any children or heirs that anyone knew about, so the inn just sat there and crumbled. Until now, I guess.

“Hopefully they won’t turn it into some modern trying-too-hard-to-be-cool place,” Paige said. “It’s so pretty the way it is. Just needs a little TLC.”

“Agreed,” I said. “People will be happy to have a place to stay in town.”

Right now, there was just a tiny bed and breakfast that only had a few rooms, or people who rented their cottages, as far as places to stay when visiting Castleton.

“I hooked up in there once,” Natalie said.

“What?!” I shrieked, a lot louder than necessary.

“Yeah, it was back in high school. Didn’t everyone else sneak in there to hook up?” She looked around and we all shook our heads.

“Oh,” she said, looking down. “Never mind.”

“No, no, you can’t drop a bomb like that and then not tell us who you were hooking up with,” Esme said.

I didn’t want to know who Natalie hooked up with.

“It was just one night. Alcohol was involved. And I’ve never told anyone about it,” Natalie said, her face getting progressively redder. “Colby Cartwright.”

“No way!”

“Oh my god!”

“You didn’t!”

The rest of us exclaimed at once.

“Does this mean I can say I’ve fucked a model?” Natalie asked.

“How was it?” Paige asked, wiggling her eyebrows.

Natalie thought about that for a second. “Short.”

That made everyone scream with laughter, except me.

I didn’t want to picture Natalie hooking up with Colby. I didn’t want to picture her hooking up with anyone, no matter how brief. The idea made my skin crawl.
