“Oh, someone messaged me!” she said, picking it up.

“Okay, what do we think?” she asked after she’d read it and passed the phone around.

Paige was first, and her eyes popped and she pressed her lips together, as if she was holding in a laugh. Esme rolled her eyes, Linley said “hell no,” and then I was last.

The message was from a guy holding a fish in his profile picture and basically asked Natalie if she would do some sexual things with him.

In the opening message.

“Well, he’s bold, I’ll give him that.”

“Yes, but he can’t spell,” Natalie said. “So that’s going to be a no from me.” She took her phone back and laughed.

“I’m probably going to regret this whole thing.”

I still couldn’t shake the gross feeling I had when I thought about Natalie dating and talking with other people. Would she ask for my opinion first? I mean, she didn’t have to. She wasn’t beholden to me for anything, but I still…I didn’t like it.

There it was. I didn’t like it, and I couldn’t articulate why. I knew I was being selfish. I knew I was being ridiculous, but that didn’t stop me from feeling the way I did. It was for me to work on, though. She didn’t need to know about it.

Thankfully, Linley started talking about a divorce cake she’d made for someone, which shifted everything away from Natalie and her dating stuff.

I didn’t want to think or talk about that any more than I had to.
