“Thank you for the ride,” she said. “I really appreciate being saved from being a pancake on the side of the road.”

“No problem,” I said. “Have a good night.”

“You too, Charli,” she said, getting out of the car and shutting the door.

I watched her walk up the steps to the front door of the inn and go inside. The lights were low, but still glowing in the lobby.

Somehow, I made it through the last day of the sale, just a little worse for wear. I didn’t see Alivia on Sunday, no matter how much I looked for her in the crowds of people. My last task of the day was to tally the votes on our new menu items and announce the winner on social media. We’d gotten way more votes than I’d anticipated, so it took a while, but the winner turned out to be the caramel pretzel chocolate cookies, the apple cider donut cupcakes, and the s’mores donut by a landslide. I put up the winners and then went to the fridge to find something to nibble on myself but found nothing.

Linley had gone home early tonight because she would be up early tomorrow to start baking again. We were closed on Monday to recover from the sale, so we’d be back open on Tuesday.

I was planning on using the day to get caught up on a bunch of projects and get ahead on others. My aunt and cousin told me that I should take the day off, but the siren song of getting caught up on work was strong.

I made a promise with myself. If the weather was nice, I would take the day off and go to the beach. If it was rainy, I would come in to work.

So far, the forecast was sunny and a high of seventy-six degrees.
