WEST, AKA TURNING AN UH-OH INTO AN AHA!

Earlier in the day...

Tumbling Rock isn’t a big town by any means. For the club to make money, we’ve spread out to neighboring areas like Rockwell. Over time, we’ve bumped into territory belonging to the Blood Red Suns Motorcycle Club.

In my head, I imagine removing them in the future when I’m president. Then, we can gobble up their towns and expand for the next generation. But warring with the Blood Red Suns is something for the future.

Except Tuesday’s currently dating one of their members. If that doesn’t end well, I can imagine a few rounds of ass-kicking between the clubs.

While checking on various club businesses, I pass a hamburger shack near Basin Rock. Several members of the Blood Red Suns stop bullshitting long enough to eyeball my pretty ass.

I assume they’re jealous and smile for them. If I weren’t hiding behind sunglasses, I’d give them a wink. I can beat any of those fuckers in a fight, no doubt about it. My pa taught me to be the quintessential badass in our neck of the woods.

I ride home, leave my hog in the third garage, and check my messages to see if Alexis is having fun. Finding a picture of her with green shit on her face, I hope she’s having fun. I can’t imagine all that crap feels good, but chicks need different stuff than men. No need to understand the details.

I enter the house to find Journey messing around at the stove. My mother sits at the kitchen table, looking at her laptop.

“We tracked down the human zit,” Ma-Poppy announces, full of glorious pride.

“You did what?”

“Don’t let her brag,” Journey insists. “Alexis’s mom kept her name. Poppy just typed Shania Fontaine into the search bar and came up with the loser’s lounge act.”

Ma-Poppy rolls her eyes before smiling at me. “I still ought to get credit for taking the initiative.”

“Well, lose that bitch’s info,” I reply and pat her head. “Alexis said she doesn’t care about her mom being alive.”

“She’s just processing the info. She’ll want to know Shania once the reality settles in.”

“No, she won’t. I’m certain of it.”

Ma-Poppy frowns at Journey. “Why didn’t you stop me?”

“I tried, but you said I was muscled like a man yet lacked the most important muscle. Then, you claimed I was dead inside, which was why my son was in love with a ghost.”

“Wait, what?” I grumble.

“Ike is in love with a ghost,” Ma-Poppy answers. “You know that, West.”

“No, I mean, what did Journey fail to stop you from doing?”

When Ma-Poppy stares at me with her big blue eyes, I feel myself giving in to their power. Then, I remember my dream girl’s blue eyes. Finally, my blue eyes narrow, full of suspicion.

“What did you do?”

Sighing, Ma-Poppy explains, “I messaged the muff cabbage to say my son was marrying her daughter. Also, that Shania could suck on an egg.”

“That was very mature,” Journey says.

Smiling, Poppy nods as if her sister is serious. “Thank you.”

“Why did you do that?” I ask my ma as I sink to my knees next to her chair. “Alexis isn’t ready to see her mom.”

“What makes you think the vaginal fungus would even respond to my message?”

Sighing, I ask, “She already has, hasn’t she?”

Ma-Poppy frowns at me and then at her chuckling sister. “You should have stopped me.”
