Keeping one arm around her shoulders, he led her between the bodies of men frozen in death. She clung to him, hiding her face in his sleeve.

Brutally cold wind greeted them outside, rushing through the thin material of his tunic. A violent shiver ran through his body.

“There must be a place in this city where they sell coats,” he muttered under his breath.

“Do you want to go shopping?” Amira’s voice trembled a little.

“What use is money if you can’t spend it?” He hugged her closer.

For one, holding her kept them both a little warmer.

And two, he’d promised her a place at his side, and he was beginning to think that was exactly where she belonged.
