STONE

To make my plan work, I need to flawlessly execute both parts—those parts being both the man and woman I can’t stop thinking about. Charis has taken notice that there’s something unexplainable about Gibson and me. And as a sign of fate,Gibson just happens to be attracted to the same woman I am—out of pure coincidence. But see, I don’t believe in merely coincidence. It’s fate—as a sign we’re all meant to be together.

I shoot a text off to Gibson before I fall asleep with a smile both he and the beautiful nurse have put there tonight. Gibson, with his fight, is a challenge I plan to win. And Charis. Ah, my sweet and beautiful Charis.

Me:Hey, Teach. It was good seeing you today. Might as well give into what we share, and that’s the fact that your cock gets excited every time you see me.

It’s marked read right away, and I wait for the dots to appear underneath, indicating he’s typing a return message my way. I wait and wait. But as I do, I can’t forget about the beautiful woman who held my hand today and gave me a goodnight kiss for the record books, letting her know I’m thinking of everything that is Charis Andropolis.

Me:Hey, love. I wanted to thank you for accompanying me today to the barbeque. You know, I’ve been wanting to ask you out for some time, but I wasn’t sure when it would be right.

Katherine’s been gone for a while, and I know it’s about the same time she divorced her husband, who both Bridget and Simon refer to as a disgrace to mankind.

Unlike my text to Gibson, who still is silent on his end, Charis replies immediately, and I already have her programmed under a special nickname.

Love:Thanks for inviting me. It’s been a hell of a year. And I know you’re still grieving your wife, even if you were divorced. I’ve seen how you talk about her. And I know it’s been a hard loss.

I read it as she’s typing out another message.

Love:And by the way, I’ve been waiting for you to ask me out. Truth be told, I’ve been so upset over the custody order that I couldn’t answer straight when you asked me at first. Now that Meadow’s dad’s custody has been lifted, I can breathe better.

I had no idea it was this bad, although when I heard the story about how Gibson scared off that piece of shit, I realized it’s worse than I ever figured it to be.

Me:Love, I can’t imagine what you’re going through.

Charis returns the message right away.

Love: It’s okay, and it’s nice to know I have someone to talk about it with.

It’s just that I want to share more than a casual fuck with her—her and Gibson both. I have this need to protect them.

Me:I want to be there for you. I know we discussed seeing other people but if you’re ever in a bind, or need a listening ear, I want to be that person for you.

She reads this, but doesn’t reply, though I get a notification from Gibson.

Teach:Leave me the hell alone, asshole.

Ah, the grit in this man has me smiling from ear to ear.

Me:You know, I’m just more turned on by the fight in you.

His return comes immediately.

Teach:Don’t make me have to get a new number, fucker.

I laugh out loud, though there’s no one around to hear me.

Me:Don’t do that, I’ll miss your crass words.

Teach:YOU’RE THE CRASS HUMAN BEING.

I won’t lie, the words sting a bit, especially with them being in all caps. It’s his way of yelling at me. I don’t think I’m that bad, however, I won’t fight him anymore. I switch over to Charis’s name and smile at her response.

Love:I’d love that, Stone. I’ve not had a lot of people on my side lately. Just Bridget and my parents. Knowing I have you to depend on means the world to me. I’m going to turn in. But I’ll chat with you in the morning. Good night and thanks for the day.

I place my phone on my nightstand next to my bed, where I fall asleep with memories of both Gibson and Charis filling my dreams.
