His line ends with him, apparently, so the reins of Condor have to be handed to someone.

And I’m guessing Kenneth doesn’t want that someone to be in an office full of costly lawyers and trustees.

“You need to reschedule?” I ask, figuring he will. But his angry response tells me there’s life in the old boy yet.

“Of course, I won’t reschedule. It’ll be a lunch meeting, at twelve o’clock. Sharp!” he spits out, and although I only hear a dial tone, the image of him slamming the phone down sticks in my mind.

“Are you coming in here?” Chloe eventually calls out, sensing I’m done on the phone for now.

“Oh, I’m coming,” I call back to her, grinning at the sensation of my fresh arousal this morning.

Eager to share it with the woman I love.

I promised myself to tell her just that, but I feel hijacked when I see her naked in the huge shower.

I have to tell her I’m not leaving without her.

“We’ve got a lunch meeting with the boss,” I inform her, not meaning to sound so clinical but feeling forgiven once her hands wrap around my waist as I join her.

My good morning gift to her is poking up her stomach, and kissing the base of her breasts.

“That’s hours away,” she coos, taking in a sharp breath as she squeezes my hardened head with both hands.

“Will you have time to scrub my back?” she asks, trying hard to look innocent.

“I was planning on scrubbing your front, too,” I tell her.

Our mouths lock under the warm jets of water.

The steam may be rising from the hot water or maybe starting to rise from us.

It’s hard to say.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

Chloe

Waking up in Xander’s arms proves I’m not just dreaming up everything that’s happened.

Although it’s still weird not to think I must’ve dreamt how perfect yesterday was.

The hotel suite is the same in the morning light, as is Xander.

But I’m different somehow. Changed. But for the better.

I’ve slept sounder than ever, and once I did wake up, it was like being wrapped in a cocoon of warmth and protection I never want to leave.

I stay snuggled up against his huge body, feeling his breath on my neck as he sleeps.

I also feel something else pressing into my back that makes me smile.

Knowing if we stay like this, that’ll be the entire day gone. Spent in bed, which doesn’t bother me, but I’m sure Xander had something important to do today.

And even though it’s Saturday, I don’t want to get in the way of any business he’s got to attend to.

Staying as long as I dare, I slip out from under him and head for the shower when I feel myself about to give in to temptation. The pleasant ache between my legs reminds me that maybe I need a rest down there.

For a few more hours, at least.

Running my hands across my belly, watching the warm water bead off them, I can’t help thinking that something more special than me just losing my virginity happened last night as well.

Xander joins me after what I guess to be a phone call, and as much as I told myself I could do without another pounding from him….

Well. He has a certain way with his hands and words, but we still manage to be dressed and look razor-sharp in time to leave for his appointment.

“I’m not leaving you here,” he tells me flatly, letting me know that he’s holding me to my notion of wherever he goes, I go.

And that suits me fine.

“Where exactly are we going?” Once we’re in the limo again, I ask him, the hotel disappearing behind us as the driver takes the freeway exit.

Xander sighs, patting my knee.

“It’s work, I’m afraid. But not the usual kind. And as much as I have to take you with me, I’d much rather you didn’t have to go through what’s about to happen,” he adds grimly.

I feel my stomach sink, and I know he’s not playing with words now.

“Xander, what’s wrong? What is it?” I ask, feeling my anxiety rising as I wring my hands in my lap.

“Kenneth Condor wants a meeting. And something tells me he’ll want to see you there anyway,” he finally says, letting out a long puff of air from his cheeks.

He settles back into his seat, staring straight ahead.

“The old bastard probably wants to see what all the fuss has been about….” he muses to himself.

“Xander?” I plead, gripping his arm. Almost annoyed that I couldn’t get a straight answer from him.

Xander touches my face, curling his lip into a smile.

“Don’t you worry, Chloe. You’re not in any trouble. But after this lunch meeting? Well. I might be out of a job,” he says.

To make matters worse, the beaming smile on his lips is making me more confused than anything.

Opening my mouth to say something, I find myself stuck for words.
