He didn’t bother to try to hide his wicked grin. “That’s different, baby. Which is why I had the home theater put in.”

“Thanks for helping me make my next point.” Another finger went up. “They could’ve just watched a movie here, where I could peek in on them.”

“That would have worked great, except they wanted to watch that new superhero movie that just hit the theaters,” he reminded me. “Austin couldn’t even get it for me this early.”

“Mm-hm, sure he couldn’t.” Being a billionaire was incredibly convenient at times, like being able to call one of the biggest names in Hollywood to ask for a favor. I narrowed my eyes as I grumbled, “And how come you got all the credit for Fenton chauffeuring them on their double date when I’m the one who suggested it?”

There was a twinkle in his green eyes as he answered, “Probably because Carver knows you didn’t want him to go and you keep calling it a double date.”

When Rhett casually mentioned that he had already given our youngest son permission to go to the movies today, I hadn’t paid much attention. Until I asked who was going with Carver and two of the three names were girls. Since we had an agreement to always back each other up with the kids, I couldn’t tell our son that he couldn’t go. But I had insisted that Fenton take them.

“It’s more likely because you were his partner in crime on the plot to make this double date happen in the first place.”

“I wouldn’t say there was a plot.”

I didn’t buy that at all.

He changed tactics when I quirked a brow. “But I’m willing to admit that Carver probably came to me first because he knew there wasn’t a chance in hell that you’d say yes.”

“Only because it’s not fair. Clara is a year older but you refuse to budge on allowing her to date. Not to mention that Ryan and Nate were her age when they went to school dances with girls.” I raised two more fingers at the same time. “If I tried to pull a stunt like this—even if it was in a group with boys and girls—you’d make me pay for it in spankings.”

He nipped at one of my fingertips, his voice was raspy as he murmured, “You enjoy the feel of my hand on your ass too much for that to be a punishment, baby.”

I couldn’t argue with him since he was right. “Clara is upstairs in her room.”

The reminder was for me as much as him—something for me to latch onto as a reason why I shouldn’t let this go so I could jump my sexy husband.

Wrapping his arms around my back to pull me close, he kissed his way down my jawline. “I know.”

“And she’s not any happier with you than I am.” I tilted my head back to give him better access to my neck.

“I’ll make it up to her.” He nipped over my pulse point. “After I get back in your good graces.”

Rhett followed through on his promise in spades. A few mind-blowing orgasms mellowed me out, and our daughter was bribed with a daddy and daughter date for ice cream. I couldn’t blame her for being a daddy’s girl, though. Not when Rhett was just as amazing with our children as my dad was with my siblings and me.

Thirteen years later, Hudson was ready to make that happen. He’d set things in motion so he could show Grace that they could stand on their own feet without their parents help. Prologue

“Honey! I’m home!” I shouted as I ran into the playroom.

My best friend, Gracie—oops, I meant wife—stopped doing dishes in the little kitchen and ran over to me with a big smile. “Welcome home!” she shouted. She gave me a big bear hug and a kiss on the lips, making me grin.

I loved my Gracie. She’d been my bestest friend since we were babies, and we’d be friends forever. She even let me call her Gracie when no one else was allowed.

Someday, after we’d grown up, we’d get married and do this for real.

We’d be just like my mom and dad. Get married, kiss allllll the time, and bring home lots of babies. Gracie said she loves babies, and I just want my Gracie to smile all the time.

“Okay kids,” Jonah, Gracie’s dad, said. “Time for bed. Upstairs, girls on the right, boys on the left.”
