“The type of girl who goes after a married man. Yes, I am your wife in body and in name right now, but she’s not me.”

I shake my head. “No, she could never be you. Do you really think I would stay with her, though… after this? I may have taken a lot from Kendra over the years, but no more.” I take her hand and cover it with both of mine. “And it took you coming into my life to realize that I’m worth a lot more than that. It took you to realize just how happy I could actually be.”

She searches my eyes with hers, a quirk of a smile gracing her lips. “You know… it’s funny. So many years I have followed you and watched your movies. Saw the way you smooth-talked women and got them to fall in love with you. Never in my life did I ever dream that I would be sitting here… with you… having you mesmerize me.”

I quirk an eyebrow. “Oh, I mesmerize you, do I?”

She nudges me with her elbow. “You know exactly what you’re doing, Mr. Prescott, and it’s not fair.”

“I don’t think anyone plays fair when they want what they want.”

She smiles, but then says, “Man, that’s so cheesy.”

Laughter erupts in the room and it’s then I realize this is possibly the first time ever that I have laughed in a hotel room with my wife… who’s not my wife.

I don’t think I can ever get over that fact.

“Room service?” I ask, noting that my stomach’s rumbling.

Her eyes light up. “Oh, yes, please. I’m famished!”

I don’t think I could ever get used to that either.
