“And I know it, most of the time, anyway. When they’re all up in my business, I’m a little less thankful than I probably should be.”

She’s a natural beauty with flawless light brown skin that needs no makeup or embellishments. Her smile is electrifying, but her eyes are the showstopper. I wish I could see more of her, but I can see only her top half, which is pretty great. “You should be thankful all the time.”

“What’s your family like?”

“I have no family to speak of, other than close friends who are like family.”

I have so many questions, but she pats me on the arm and tells me she’ll check on me later. “Get some rest while you can.” Before she leaves the room, Gianna dims the lights, but I can still see the hustle and bustle of the ICU through the big windows. The beeping of the machines I’m attached to is going to drive me crazy, but my eyes are so heavy, I can’t keep them open.

I wonder if I’ll see Gianna again.
