Ramya was distracted by a message on her phone to catch Nami’s mixed reaction at the mention of the kiss. “This is just… OMG. Look who messaged me.” She flipped her phone for Nami to see.

Rana: Hey, after-party at the beach. Bring your cousin too.

Ramya looked stoked. “Rana sent me an invitation to the after-party he and his cousins are hosting tonight. This is epic!”

Nami could only smile at her cousin’s enthusiasm, but she could not deny that the guy’s invitation spiked her interest. “That’s nice, but—”

“Nope.” Ramya placed her palms over her ears, literally refusing to take no for an answer. “We are going to Rana’s party. Ditching all others.”

Nami’s brows furrowed. “My first class is tomorrow. How can I attend a party and pay attention in class?”

Ramya was not even listening as she walked over to Nami’s freshly arranged closet. “So is mine and every other student who will be up all night partying. It’s the Simha way. Get on with it.” She flipped through some of the clothes on the hangers and tsked. “I know what you should wear.”

“Ramya… please. Do I need to go?” All Nami could think of was to crash before she started her first day on her dream campus.

Ramya glared at Nami like she said a curse word. “No more discussions.” She walked over to where Nami sat, defeated. “This is a special invite for you. I’m not going if you don’t go. This is the Simha party, and I’ll miss it too.”

Nami knew she had lost any chance of getting out of going to the party. She could not let Ramya miss out on it because of her. “Fine. I’ll go, but I need to be back before midnight.”

“Not my problem. You can ask Rana to bring you back and maybe have your own after- party,” Ramya teased, making heat flare up on Nami’s cheek. She had to quickly turn away to hide the sudden rush of excitement she felt at the idea of returning from the party with him.

Just chill, Nami!

“I’ll figure out a way to get back. Promise me you won’t guilt me into going to a party again.” Nami wanted to embrace the culture of the university, but she wanted to get the best out of the coursework in case it was the only one semester she could attend at Simha.

“Fine. Just this time. I won’t ask again.” Ramya pouted and held up a dress for Nami to wear. “And I won’t pester you to dress up either.”

Although Nami knew Ramya was faking the unhappiness, she didn’t want her cousin to take her resistance to partying the wrong way. “Ramya, I love every dress you choose for me, and if I were going to Simha as a full-time student, I would have joined you for every party.”

Ramya giggled while hugging Nami. “It’s okay, cuz, work hard, and we can party together when you come back for another semester.”

Nami laughed. “How I wish that was true.”

Ramya held Nami by her shoulders. “You will do well, and I’m pretty sure you will come back for another semester.”

“Okay. Give me a few minutes, and I will change.” Nami smiled at the joy on her cousin’s face.

“Me too.” Ramya was gone in a flash, and Nami knew it wouldn’t take her long to be fabulous and decked out to party all night.

Chapter 5

Nami would be lying if she said she was not filled with a strange mix of excitement and anticipation. She sat next to Ramya on the party bus that was taking them to the beach while her cousin spoke to a guy she met a few minutes ago. Nami was busy preparing herself to not be affected by her sporadic reactions to seeing the guy again. Her lips trembled like they remembered the last time she kissed him.

She chewed her lower lip attempting to shake away the tingle and told herself not to get carried away. She didn’t need a distraction. It’s not the time to give into sparks of excitement. Maybe just this one party, and that’s it.

“Nami, look.” Ramya pointed to one side of the road where there were motorbikes on what seemed to be a dirt track. “That’s where the Simha bike races are held. We should check them out sometime.”

Last party for the semester.

She smiled and nodded as if in agreement while she told herself she needed to stay away from the handsome and amazing kisser. Not the right time. And it sucked she had to ignore such excitement, but her dream was more important.

Nami was almost dizzy with confusion when they finally arrived at the beach party, and she felt even more lightheaded with the loud music and bright lights.

She managed to smile taking in Ramya’s excitement. “See, I told you Simha parties are sick. Call or text me.” The guy Ramya met on the bus ride over was impatient.

Nami nodded. “Enjoy. I will probably head back early.”

“What? No.” Ramya pouted as she was dragged away by the new guy who seemed eager to take her to go play one of the games.
