“Yup.” He grabbed the drink from her hand and took a sip of it. The way his lips closed on the straw exactly over the stain from her lip gloss made her fuzzy inside. She looked away, unable to handle the look in his eyes. Like he was taunting her.

In a way, it reminded her of their kiss. Didn’t he say she had to woo him. Why was he teasing her to the edge?

“I’ll… see you later,” she said just before turning away but stopped when he gently pulled on the sleeve of her T-shirt.

She looked up at him questioningly. “I need to go to class.”

He took a long sip of the drink. “I know your classes don’t start for another hour. I need to shower. Wait for me outside.”

“What?” She was outraged.

He looked at her for a long moment. “Wait. For. Me. Outside.”

With those famous words, he left her standing, dumbfounded. She had no idea what he had in mind and why he wanted her to wait around for him. Knowing she had no option but to do what she was asked, she stepped out of the sports building and found a bench in the shade.

Nami was not hungry after chugging down the coffee, so she settled into the bench with her laptop. She lost track of time as she got lost in the presentation she was preparing to make on a design for a racing arena.

“You’re designing a racetrack?” His taunt made her look up and quickly shut her computer.

“Why did you ask me to wait?” She had no patience to entertain his antics. Did she have a choice?

He sat next to her, turning in to face her as he reached into his pocket. “If you think you can wipe out the video on the phone and be done with it, you are mistaken.”

Her jaw dropped, wondering how he knew she had considered it and barely executed it. “I… why would I do that? You said Simhas stand by their word.”

“Yeah, and you, Varma, don’t know what it means to stick to what they commit to.” She felt the blow from his words, and although she didn’t exactly know every detail of what happened between their families, she knew what he was referring to.

Pushing away the analysis that was running, she took in a slow, deep breath. “Like I said, all I care about is to be at Simha. I don’t need you to take every opportunity you get to take a dig at me because of what happened in the past between our fathers.”

Rana fell silent as if he was processing her words. “Fine. Don’t try anything stupid.” He held his phone to her.

Her eyes widened at what she saw on his screen. ‘Car Vandalized at Simha for the First Time!’

It was the Simha Newsletter. She started to shiver on the inside as he slowly scrolled through the article and stopped at the pictures of the car. The eggs had formed a thick layer over its hood.

“Do you have any idea how much damaged you caused to the car?” He seemed to be in disbelief.

She let out a sigh. “I’m not proud of what I did, but that ass deserved it.”

He let out a laugh. “What do you have against the dude? Didn’t fall for your tricks and ask you out, and this is revenge?”

She had enough of his taunting for the day, and she stood up to leave. As if on instinct, he stood in front of her, blocking her. She looked up into his eyes, fuming. “Get out of my way.”

His eyes narrowed. “Did you forget what we agreed to last night?”

She matched the challenge and threat in his tone. “I don’t remember agreeing to be treated like this was part of the deal.”

His eyes scanned her face, slowly from her eyes, down to her lips, and back up. “How do you suggest we get started?”

“Started?” She scoffed. “I’m already doing what I committed to. I brought you a smoothie.” He laughed like she said something funny. He was loud enough to catch the attention of a few folks who were walking around. She smiled sheepishly at them and looked back at him. “What’s so funny?”

“You are.” He chuckled and added, “When you look through my locker for my phone, you should at least put things back the same way they were.”

Her stomach dropped. “What are you talking about?”

“Did you go through my locker or not?” He was blunt.

She knew there was no point lying at that point. “I did but only to see if there was place for me to leave the smoothie.”
