“Don’t waste my time. I hate it.” She lowered her voice but maintained a stern tone. “In the last two days, you made me wait for hours. Don’t do that.”

He didn’t respond immediately but gave her a soft nod.

“And I will do my best to keep up with the deal.” She held his gaze.

He chuckled. “Is that why you had this on?” He flipped his phone and showed a picture of her walking into the cafeteria, her lavender blouse looking super cute on her.

“Who sent you this picture?” There was no way she could hide her surprise. Did he have spies?

He put his phone away but did not respond to her question. “We should go eat somewhere else.”

“Where?” That was not according to plan, so she had to make things work.

“Anywhere but here.” He thought for a moment. “Can you go on my bike in that skirt?”

Nami could not figure out what he had in mind. If he was trying to make her feel uncomfortable, she wouldn’t let him. She had a denim skirt on that had buttons in front along the length of the skirt. She could open a few for her to sit on the bike. “I guess. Why do you ask?”

“Do you want to go grab a bite by the lighthouse?” His tone was hesitant and somewhat sarcastic like he was sure she would disagree, and he had to have something to counter her with.

Instead, she wanted to throw his plans off, whatever they were, whether they existed or not. “Sure. I loved the food we ate when we went on our first date.” She made sure she was loud enough for everyone who was near them to hear her, especially Jenny, the girl who Rana claimed to be his dinner buddy.

The surprise in his eyes gave her a kick of energy. “Okay. Let’s go.”

Nami had no idea what he was planning, but she had decided not to back down. No matter how approachable he seemed that evening, she wouldn’t let her guard down. He was still her rival, and that didn’t seem to change anytime soon. She followed him to the parking structure and his bike. On their way there, she caught sight of her handiwork.

Varun’s powder blue car was still parked in the spot. She felt guilty for how the car looked with the chipped paint on the hood. Still not repenting what she did, she looked away. She caught Rana observing her but did not say anything.

When they got to the bike, she wore her backpack and bent to open the bottom buttons on the front of her long denim skirt so it was easy to sit on the bike. She looked up halfway up the buttons and found him looking at her, a mysterious look in his eyes.

He didn’t avert his eyes even when she clashed her eyes with him. “What?”

He shook his head, a small smile on his face. “I’m wondering how much ammunition you have for me tonight. Is this all part of the seduction?”

“Stop it,” she warned. “It’s not funny.”

“Let’s go.” He scoffed as if he were enjoying every one of her reactions.

No further words were exchanged as she put on the helmet and climbed on the bike. Like he had instructed her when they went on the first bike ride, she hopped on the bike and placed her hands on the tank as he had instructed. The outfit was a poor choice, but there was no going back at that point. By opening the buttons and sitting with her legs on both sides of the bike, her legs were bare up to her thigh.

Great! He is going to think I’m tempting him.

She had that thought for a moment, and then she didn’t think it wasn’t a bad thing. If it happened naturally, it might have a bigger effect on him. Her shoulders touched his gently from the back, and that kickstarted something deep inside her.

Memories of the first date came crashing, the way butterflies took off from the pit of her stomach, and the excitement of being with the perfect guy made her stomach roll uncomfortably. She let out a low sigh, brushing away those thoughts. There was no point thinking about something that was not even remotely possible, especially with an ass like him.

It wasn’t a long drive to the small restaurant that the lighthouse keeper’s spouse set up. All along, she wondered why he chose not to eat at the cafeteria and then why he was taking her back to the same place as their first date? What was he up to?

She told herself to go with the flow. Take on his antics with poise and not be flustered by his arrogant good looks. Repeating those words in her mind, she hopped off the bike when he pulled up into the designated parking space of the small family-run restaurant.

As he parked the bike and set aside the helmets, she buttoned her skirt down. Again, when she looked up, she found him observing her quietly, a small smile playing on his lips.

“What is so funny?” she asked again, and he only shook his head in response.

Not wanting to be the one talking and initiating conversation, she decided to let him take the lead on the conversation that evening, especially considering it was his idea to eat by the lighthouse.

“Do you want to try something new?” He kept his eyes on the menu, and unlike the last time they were on a date, he was keeping his gaze away from her.

“Anything works.” She kept her eyes on the menu board like she was memorizing the list of dishes.
