Her back stiffened when she heard the distant rumble of the motorcycle. A moment later, the girls heard the roar and started cheering. Ramya gave her a tight hug. “Have fun. Please use protection. I’m not ready to be an aunty.” She discretely slipped in a foil-wrapped packet into her pocket.

All Nami could do was roll her eyes at the girls. “Don’t let your imaginations run wild.”

“Okay, okay, but you guys get wild, and we want to hear every bit of it.” Vasavi clapped with excitement, and Nami could only smile at the irony. It was too bad she was going through the motions for something that would have been a fun time if she were going out with a guy she actually enjoyed spending time with.

She rushed down the stairs about to open the door and paused for a moment, processing her mixed emotions. Despite the fact she had to go to the party because of her rival, she enjoyed the process of getting ready and excited about potentially ending the charade that night with him.

Deciding to bring on the full girlfriend experience, she smiled broadly as she opened the door. Her hair was styled by Ramya’s expert hands, and her face glowed with Vasavi’s signature touch. The moment she laid eyes on him, she kept them trained. He had not seen her yet as he texted with one hand and ran his fingers through his hair with the other.

Her phone buzzed against her in her clutch, and the next moment, he turned to look in her direction. The expression in his eyes made her smile broaden. It was barely for a moment that she saw something that was not annoyance and anger that he always showered her with. That moment felt like a resonance of what still lingered inside her—the undying attraction her body didn’t care to let go even after her heart and mind had brought their guard up. She felt warm on the inside as he got off the bike to walk toward her.

He chuckled as he scanned her top to bottom. “Not bad, Varma. You clean up really good.”

“Good.” She tried to keep the sarcasm down. “I hope to offer the best experience for you as your fake girlfriend.”

“Yeah? I can’t wait to see what you got.” He was taunting her, but she only nodded.

“Now, if you don’t mind kissing me because my roomies are watching from the window.” She stepped closer, her hand going up to his cheek, determined to get him to the point where he kisses her to end the deal.

He cast her a cocky grin. “You can kiss me all you want.”

“Fine,” she hissed as she stepped closer, tightening her hold around his neck, and instead of kissing him on the cheek like she had in public as part of the act, she landed her lips on his jawline and kept them plastered.

Time froze as they both stood rooted to their spots, and she slowly moved her lips along his jawline. Even though it was an attempt to get him worked up, something inside her twitched. The longing to feel the rough stubble against her puffy lips only grew, and she grazed her lips lower along the column of his neck.

She felt the familiar shudder pass through him, and just as she was about to up the game by going lower, she felt him move. His fingers gripped her loose hair, and he angled her head to face him. “Save some for later. No need to show off your textbook girlfriend knowledge to me.”

Textbook? Wait, was the kiss not good?

He walked away, started the bike, and put his helmet back on as if he wanted to hide his expression. She ignored his rather snarky comment and got on the back of the bike. The night was still young, and she would have a few more opportunities at the party.

To her utter disappointment, the party was a total bore. She was still trying to figure out what it was about the event that made it so coveted. Thirty minutes in, and people were arriving. She noticed they were all couples, and it was nothing like a reckless college party that her cousin and roommate had told her to expect.

What a waste of time?

She hardly knew anyone and was left to hang out by herself while all the other gals clung to their partners. Her so-called boyfriend was missing in action. As she sat sipping on the soda, she noticed all the other girls had very casual attire on. They were very fashionable, yet perfect to be riding bikes—motorcycle jackets paired with leather pants or athletic pants.

She looked around and realized she was the one who was dressed like she was at a party, like the kind of people who hang out and socialize, but something told her this wasn’t going to be the kind of party she had expected.

Why did he bring her here? To get her bored? Ignore her? Make her feel out of place?

She rolled her eyes when she realized the answer was all of the above. What else did she expect from him? Yet again, it was her foolish hope that she could get out of the deal by enticing him. She chuckled, realizing how naïve she had been all along to even think she could get out of the mess with him, and he always saw right through her plans.

“What are you so happy about?” His voice cut through her mulling.

She looked up to find him standing behind the couch she was sitting in, looking down at her. “I’m just thrilled to be sitting here all by myself when my boyfriend is oblivious of my existence.”

“Wow, poetry,” he teased as he walked around and sat down next to her, getting too much into her personal space. He was tall and broad, and the sofa that had looked like it was comfortable for the other couples was a bit too cozy for them.

“Yes, born out of all the stimulation I had sitting here by myself.” She couldn't help but be salty about being bored out of her mind.

He looked at her for a long moment before leaning in, his lips so close to her ear, his breath hot on her cheek. “By the time this party is over, you’ll be begging for more. You’ll be so exhausted, you’ll want to stop, but it’s so much fun, you can’t.”

She pulled away, startled by his words and the deliberation with which he said them. Her insides had turned raw, and a throbbing had started deep within. Her mouth had gone dry, and her breath was coming so fast as he looked at her like he could see through everything she was experiencing.

What the heck was he talking about?

“Have you lost your mind?” He was getting on her nerves, and all she wanted to do was leave.
