He dipped his head for an Eskimo kiss. “I’ll call you, and I’ll see you every day.”

She hugged him, knowing how much she will miss him. “You will do no such a thing. When you are with family be present, especially since this is your aunt’s celebration of life.”

He smiled. “I’m so looking forward to this trip because this would be the first time everyone would see my dad standing on his own with no support.”

Nami sat up holding the sheets to her chest. “Oh my God. For real? That’s amazing. I know the accident he had was really bad.”

He stiffened at the mention of the accident, and she noticed the sudden shift in his manner. She did not say anything for a long moment. “Rana… what does that mean for us? Are you always going to hold that over my dad?”

Her heartbeat sped up in anxiety when he did not respond immediately. “The pain and suffering my family went through was real. For me, I was angry at everyone and everything and latched onto the accident being the sole reason, and…” his voice trailed off, and she remained silent to give him space. “When I saw my dad walk again without any support, I think I let go of all the anger. It was also the night I found out you had messed up the guy’s car for Vasavi. Someone you barely knew and was still okay to be tormented by me. It was at that moment I knew I had to let go of my pent-up rage. No one is to be blamed for what happened.”

She let out a cry of joy and hugged him. “I’m so happy to hear that.”

“I’m going to miss you so terribly.” He took a bite of her flesh before pulling her into a kiss.

She kissed him back, matching his eagerness, her heart filled with joy and happiness. “I’ll miss you too, and I’m worried about how our dads will take it if they found out we are not rivals anymore.”

He smiled, the tip of his finger tracing her jawline. “What are we then if we aren’t rivals?”

She knew where he was going with it. “I don’t know, you tell me.”

“Are you my dance partner?” He raised a curious eyebrow.

She rolled her eyes. “It was only one night. Doesn’t count.”

“My boxing coach?” he taunted.

“Not a certified coach. Next.” She was uninterested.

He scoffed. “My nutritionist? Remember all the smoothies?”

“I’m done here,” she said, annoyed with his words, but before she could move away, he caught her, holding her to him, kissing her temple. “You are my sweet distraction.” She tried to wiggle further, but he tightened his arm and bit her cheek. The very gesture made her nerves strum in response. “You are the one who taught me how to deal with an annoying badass like me, to care for others, be compassionate, how hatred can be handled, and how to love.”

Her heart swelled with joy. “I love you, Rana, so much.” The words came out inadvertently.

He let her loose only to have her turn to face him before pulling her into a kiss. “I love you too, baby. What would I do without my sweet confection?”

Nami was overjoyed and batted away happy tears. “You’ll be fine. You will be with family. Stop moping around now.”

He smiled, nodding, and his eyes flashed with something. “I have an idea.”

“What?” She was suspicious of his thoughts.

He leaned closer, nuzzling her neck. “How about you give me something of yours, something that I can have on me all the time?”

She scrunched her nose. “Like what?”

His eyes dazzled with excitement. “Like what you had given me once already. Can I have the same thing?”

She didn’t know what he was talking about. “What is that?”

“Something you have on all the time,” he teased, and by the look on his face, she knew what he meant. He wanted one of her panties. She narrowed her eyes at him. “Something I have on me all the time,” she said and took off the watch she had on. “I want you to have this watch. This is one you can wear all the time.” Her tone was playful, but something moved in his eyes. His manner shifted when she placed the watch around his wrist. “There. Now you won’t miss me.” She smiled.

“But… it’s yours.” His voice was weak.

“Yes.” She let out a laugh. “I know what you were hoping to get, but you can have only this.”

He looked at the watch and then at her. “I love you, Namrata. Will you let me make up for all the hard times I put you through?”
