“Just like that? Even though we’re not official, probably never will be, and haven’t talked about what we both want? Or had sex.”

“Yeah. You know I enjoy falling in love. It’s a rush. My philosophy is to embrace your feelings, man. Be open and live life because you can’t keep something like that in. People change. Look at you. I’ve known you several years, and I’ve never seen you like this. Maybe she doesn’t have feelings right now, but they can grow. If you tell her and she doesn’t reject you, then you’ve got a chance. Feel me? Just live in the moment while Amber is away. Have fun with each other.”

I shove my hands in my pockets and lean against a wall. Sure. Just go home and confess I’m falling for her. No big deal. Super easy. Barely an inconvenience. Yeah, right.

Miguel squeezes my shoulder. “You’ve really grown and I’m proud of you. You’ve ascended, like, ten levels since she moved in. I’m in awe. I thought you’d end up like one of those loser guys in his fifties trying to hook up with eighteen-year-olds.”

I grimace. “I’m not even forty and I don’t want to hook up with them. They’re barely adults.”

“Well, I’m happy for you. This is good. I haven’t met her, but Paige sounds like a great woman. You should go home today and show her that. You know what I’m saying?” He rolls his hips in a lewd gesture. “Show her with your body how much you appreciate her.”

I laugh. “I was buying your motivational speech until you did that.”

“Sex-positive, man.”

I glance at my client. He’s almost done with the exercises I gave him. “Sure. Sex-positive. I need to work. But thanks. I mean it.” I pat my pocket with the envelope inside. “I’ll pay you back.”

“Don’t even try. Keep it. And get with your lady,” he calls after me. “That’s an order.”

“Yes, sir,” I joke.

I’m filled with energy just thinking about it. Like Miguel said, I need to live in the moment. After all the tension and drama, all of Paige’s nudist tendencies I couldn’t indulge in because of Amber, it’s time I take charge. Especially with these feelings. They need to be shown.

Chapter Fourteen

Paige

I HEAR BRODY’S CAR PULL into the driveway, so I hurry to the bathroom to wait. Today was overcast, so I went for a walk in the morning. After looking at Mrs. Johnson’s cat album again, she rewarded me with a little pink cat plush that’s missing an eye. Now Bamsy is playing video games on the couch while getting a BJ from the one-eyed cat. I have a dark sense of humor.

The door opens and I hear Brody drop his wallet and keys on the table. A few seconds later, he cracks up. I stroll out of the bathroom.

I fake gasp at Bamsy. I separate Bamsy and the one-eyed cat.

Brody’s smile reaches his eyes and I blush. Why am I blushing? He’s just smiling at me.

“He’s definitely been a bad bear today,” he says, touching my hair, the one place I told him he can always touch without asking. I’ve never given a man that much freedom with my body, but my skin accepts him more than anyone else. “I love your sense of humor.”

I wrap my arms around his neck, inviting a kiss. He rewards me with a light brush of his lips against mine. The warmth radiates down to my legs, making them unstable.

“How was your day?” he asks.

He brushes hair from my forehead. “Like I’ve said, I’m not asking you to pay rent or worry about the carpet.”

I pull away with a frown. He knows there’s no arguing with me because we’ve had this discussion. I already gave him all my profits so far, and I want to pay for carpet cleaning, too.

Instead of responding with words or letting my scowl deter him, he kisses me. His tongue traces my bottom lip, and I fall into a trance. All frustration fades. Kissing him is like finding that perfect EDM song, the one that sends the most delicious tingles up your spine as the beat builds. You want to listen to it over and over. And over.

He breaks the kiss, leaving my lips cold and craving more. He’s still smiling as he holds my waist, rocking us side to side. A slow dance. He always has a permanent smile when we greet each other. “I was wondering, are you on birth control?”

“Good. I’ve never been bareback with anyone, so you don’t have to worry about diseases. I was thinking I want to go bareback, though. Feel everything. If that’s okay with you.”

Strange. Why is he telling me this?

I glance at the stove. I move to the kitchen to check the crock pot. As I lift the lid, he moves behind me, securing his arms around my waist, spooning me against him. He’s touchy today, which is fine because today is a good sensitivity day.
