“How? When?” I ask in shock.

He laughs, pushes to a stand and makes his way to the kitchen with the flowers. He rummages through cupboards before pulling down a vase. Popping them inside, he arranges them and adds water before coming back to me. All the while I watch him in shock, awe, and lust. He looks so sexy doing something so domestic.

Dropping down on the couch, he gently positions me on his lap and holds me tight. “How are you feeling? How is your knee?” he asks, but I don’t care about that. I want to know about Theo and my mama and what he knows.

“Fine,” I wave him off. “Now tell me everything.”

“Your mama came to see me when she was last in Wellington.” My mouth drops open and he grins. “She knows everything. How much I love you. About Mel,” his forehead creases. “Well not everything about Melody.” He shudders, turning his gaze away.

I cup his face, bringing his eyes back to me. “Theo, I think we should go to the police. I...”

He cuts me off. “No piccola. I don’t want to. I just want her gone and to forget she ever existed.” His words are frantic, and I hear the pain in his voice. I won’t push him on this. I need to respect his wishes.

I place a chaste kiss on his lips before pulling back. “Okay. If that’s what you want.” He nods and as much as I want to take this further, it must be Theo’s choice. He’s the victim. It happened to him. But there is something else we can have her investigated for. “Dad told me about the drug tests on my horses. About Zeus having traces of ACP in his blood. I think Mel is behind it.”

Theo’s next words shock me. “I know she is. I requested the security footage from the Royal Palm parking lot. When the trailer was empty of staff, Mel entered the horse area. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out what she was doing. She’s responsible for drugging your horses and your accident. I had my own vet test the horses. I’m glad I did because if the officials at Royal Palm had, you would have most likely been suspended from all FEI competitions pending investigation.”

I gasp, panic coursing through me at the seriousness of this. “No one thinks I drugged my own horses, do they?”

He strokes my cheek softly. “No, baby. No one knows. They just think it was a terrible accident. There will be no comeback on you from this, piccola, I promise.” I sigh in relief. He cups my face and smiles. “I do have other news. News I think you will like.”

“Go on.”

“I never married Mel in Vegas.”

My eyes widen and my mouth drops open. “Wha-what?” I stutter.

He chuckles. “I never married her, piccola. I led her to believe I did, but it was never real. My father is friends with a judge in Vegas who drew up a fake license. He also owns a chapel and performed the fake ceremony.” Tears prick my eyes at the news. He brushes his lips across mine. “I never married her, baby. I will only ever be your husband. It’s done with her. I have the tape and now we have this evidence. She won’t want it coming to light because she could be in serious trouble for this. We did it. We got rid of her. We can finally be together for the world to see.” He pauses. “Well, once we tell your father.”

I lean in, kissing him hard. Emotion overcomes me, and tears fill my eyes.

I’m finally going to get everything I want.

My Piccolo.

My Theo.
