“His drinking bill alone is in the thousands. I mean you saw him when he got off the elevator at the label.”

I think back to my first encounter with Simon, albeit unbeknownst to him. He walked off the elevator looking like he hadn’t slept the night before. And smelled like it too.

“Yeah, you’re right. This isn’t like him. I’ll call my friend in the force, maybe he can run a trace on him.” I walk back around my desk to dial my contact with the LAPD.

“Uh, boss?” Amber calls over the phone system before I could dial out.

“Not, now. I have to find Simon.”

“That’s the thing.”

I stand straight; afraid of what she may say. “Did you hear something? A news report? What?”

“Well, hello there, beautiful.” He strolls into my office his appearance different than when I last saw him. His hair is tamed, and cut, he’s shaven, and he is wearing clothes that are clean, no stench of last night’s sexcapades or any drinking.

I hang up on Amber, taken aback by his sudden change, and walk around to the front of my desk.

“For fuck sakes, Simon. You could at least call someone, you know,” Sebastian bitches at his brother for his lack of responsibility. He then pulls him into his grasp and hugs him tight.

They release their hold and Simon walks around.

“No worries, bro. I took my normal day off and rested as usual. Got a new look and cleaned up my place. Well, I hired a company to come in and do the deep cleaning stuff. I even got my baby grand tuned up and polished. I figure the PR rep would maybe want some humble photographs of me in my pad.” He takes a few steps toward me. “Well, is it to your liking?” he asks.

My words catch in my throat as I take in this new style. From his hair to his scent, my body responds internally.

“What is that you’re wearing?” I ask softly.

“Guilty,” he replies with a sinful smile.

I clear my throat. “I bet you are. Now, why didn’t you call your brother and let him know you were okay? Or at least answer your phone.”

“To be honest, I bought a new phone and failed to charge it yesterday. It only dawned on me early this morning after the furniture people left and my interior decorator rolled her beautiful body out of my bed.”

I roll my eyes, pad back to the other side of my desk, and sit.

“Ah, yes. There he is. I knew all of him couldn’t have changed,” Sebastian grumbles.

He speaks the same thing I’m thinking.

“I mean, the lovely woman flirted with me all evening. How could I not have given her the best hour of her life?”

“It’s called pay her not fuck her for her services.”

“Oh, I paid her all right. She called in to work today with an illness excuse just so she could have one last go round.”

“Okay, I’ve heard enough. Glad you are well; I’ll call you later. Ms. Johnson, I’m sorry to have caused you any worry,” Sebastian apologizes.

“Actually, I’m glad you are both here. In fact—” I buzz Amber at her desk.

“Yes, Boss Lady,”

“Stop that. Can you get Mikey and Stix, I mean Andy, on the line for a conference?”

“I’m dialing them as we speak. I’ll alert you when they’re ready.”

I gesture to Sebastian to have a seat at the empty chair in front of my desk.

“Over the last day and most of the night, I have mapped out plans for a relaunch of sorts. Your brand isn’t dead, but it does need a reboot. I’m waiting on a few venues to respond but tomorrow we will have a junket promoting the upcoming release, a five-city soft tour, and of course the world tour.”
