“Okay great. Let me know when all is complete and when you hear from Harold.”

“Got it.”

The intercom beeps, indicating a disconnect. I turn to my computer and fill out a few of the forms needed to pay our vendors. In this case, the hair team and Brianna.

“Excuse me, love. Where is your loo?” Sebastian asks.

“The what?”

“Loo. Your powder room.”

“Oh, the bathroom. Yes, Go out the door and to the right past Amber and around the corner. Men’s is on the left.”

“Thank you.”

I smile and return to my work.

Meanwhile, Simon pulls the chair closer to my desk and plays around with my knick-knacks and photos. “Wow, that’s a nice photo of you. I particularly like the fact I can see your nipples through your swimwear.”

“Ugh, Simon. Put that down.”

“What? You have a banging body and I like to compliment. Nothing wrong with that.”

I take the frame from his grasp and stare at the picture for a moment. The girls’ trip of 2018. We went to Jamaica for a week. No work, no men, and no clients. Just peace, beaches, and rum punches for days. It was when I returned from that vacation, I noticed things were different with Cornelius and me.

“No, nothing wrong with a sincere compliment.” I push my keyboard aside and lean forward, taking a commanding position. “Now, why did you really go ghost on your brother and friends?”

He looks away and then back to me. “Not sure really. I’m aboard with the change of appearance for publicity, but I think your words struck a chord with me. About how we can be on top yet still not have the success of our earlier work. That got me to thinking and I figured it was time for a change.”

I’m impressed with how easy going he is today. Definitely not like he was the night of the performance at the Showcase. “Do you trust me to revamp you yet keep you the same?”

He reaches across my desk and takes my hand in his. “Love, you can do whatever you want to with me.” He places a gentle kiss on the back of my hand.

I heat at his touch and tingles play with my spine as if it were a xylophone. My lips parts slightly, letting out a small stream of air in response to the way my body feels from his simple gesture.

“I’m sorry, am I interrupting something?” Amber asks coyly as she enters.

I retract my hand, breaking the magnetic connection between us and snap back to work mode. “Don’t be silly. Simon is just being Simon. What do you have for me?”

“Confirmation for The London, signed NDA for Harold, and the proofs were emailed to you from the design team.” She places the documents in front of me.

“This is great. Okay. We have the venue, the refreshments, audio, and video. I’ll send out the EPK’s to our confirmed guests. Meanwhile, get Lenny on the phone for me and I’ll get these guys over for their make-over. Thanks Amber.”

“Oh. I’ll give the address to Sebastian personally,” Amber gushes while leaving.

I shake my head and dive back into my work.

“You think she has the hots for my brother?” Simon asks.

“She is a hopeless romantic. She likes dreamy guys,” I reply without thinking of who I am speaking to.

“And you? What kind of guys you like?”

I pause, focusing on Simon for just a second. “I like men who treat me well.”

“Is that what Cocoa Puff does for you?”

“Bean, Simon. Cocoa Bean, and yes, he treats me okay.” I revisit our last conversation, or rather the lack thereof because we argued over money. Mainly my money and how he felt he could spend it without asking. When I checked my mail and had a large credit card statement, all niceties went out the door. That’s the real reason he stayed at his apartment instead of mine.
