“Are you taken with me, Ms. Johnson?” I ask, my gaze meeting hers.
She tightens her lips in and lets them release slowly.

She closes her eyes for a second and inhales before opening them. “Mr. Ashton, I am not taken with you. I am merely shocked by the fact you arrived on time today. Now let’s get ready for take-off.” She settles into her seat, and I nestle in the designated rest area.
I cautiously reach up and remove the earbud from its home and place it in my ear. Expecting her to react to my actions, she surprises me by taking her own pillow and leaning against the window.
I raise up slightly just to get another gander at her.
“Is something wrong, Simon?” she asks, her eyes still closed.
I can’t tell her that the only thing wrong is that she’s not lying in my arms. “I just think it’ll be better if we move the armrest between us. It’s kinda cramping my comfort.”
“Fine. Just lay back down.”
