“Nope.”

“No? I thought you said—”

His lips cover mine, stopping my words from coming out.

“We are not a couple, in the sense of girlfriend-boyfriend.”

“So we are, what? Friends who occasionally hook up?” I sit back and cross my arms, waiting on his response.

He closes his eyes and squeezes them tightly. “No, it’s coming out wrong. I want to be able to tell the world that you are mine. I am hoping I can announce you as my fiancée.”

I gasp when he removes a ring from his front pocket. Not sure how I missed that earlier. Then again, that wasn’t the package I was eyeing. “Simon, when did you? How did you? Why—”

His kiss interrupts me again. “You have to be quiet long enough for me to finish before I lose the nerve to continue.”

I nod my head in agreement, keeping my lips sealed.

“I know this is so unorthodox, but then again, I never do anything traditionally. When I left the show tonight, I didn’t know exactly where I was going. So, I had the driver drive around until I saw a sign for a jeweler. I then went back to my house and took this from my safe. I bought it two months after we started dating. Eventually, things were going to lead to this moment, and I wanted to be prepared. That sign led me to believe this is the time. So, will you be my wife?”

I can’t find my breath. My heart beats happily and those butterflies, well, let’s just say they have created a whole ecosystem in my belly. I look at the ring and then back to Simon. Can I see myself with him forever? I’ve only known rock stars to marry models, actresses, and porn stars. Only a few marry normal people such as me.

“Come on the suspense is killing me, love. Will you marry me?”

I swallow hard, not sure how to form my words. Tears stream down my face and my mouth opens but nothing comes out. I close my jaws and try again, still coming up empty. My whole-body tenses at the inability to speak. I check my pulse, temp, and make sure I’m not stroking out. Holding out my left hand, I encourage him to put the ring on and shake my head in an approving manner.

He laughs. “Is that a yes?”

Once the ring is in place, all my jitters disappear. Not that I need a ring to make me feel better, I’m not that person. The ring just made everything click. The butterflies have left, mainly, my heart rate has stabilized, and my breathing is now calm.

“Yes. Yes, Simon. I will marry you.”

He kisses me, again, and again, laying me back onto the couch. He takes his hand and runs it up my leg, trailing the crease between my hip and my thigh.

“Where are your knickers?” He asks while nipping on my neck.

“I took a bath and was getting ready to eat and go to bed before you arrived.”

“Oh, well, let me not stop your nighttime ritual.” He stands, taking me by my hand, and pulling me up to my feet.

“Let’s go to bed. We have a tour to pack for in the morning.”

“No, you have your future wife to please, first. Then we can pack,” I reply to his comment.

“Oh, I most certainly can do that.”

THE END
