This conversation was ridiculous. Why were they even having it? Unless… “So what? You don’t want me to be the one to take out Greene?” All he did was stare. That was her answer. “You’re some piece of work,” she snapped.

Right when she was starting to like him, he goes and pulls this same old macho bullshit of trying to take care of her, and—

“I don’t care who takes him out. You, me, Liam, a wild boar that decides to wander into his bedroom. I could not care less.” He leaned in closer. “What I do care about, is that you don’t try to stop anyone else from taking the kill you see as yours. That you don’t prioritize your revenge over your life. The lives of others.”

“Why the hell would I do that?”

“Because that’s what I did.” His voice was rough, low. Angry. It sent a chill down to her bones. “I don’t want you to make the same mistake that I did.”

Anna rolled her eyes, turning away from him and staring up at the sky once more. She would never step in and stop someone else from killing Greene so she could do it… would she? The thought was tempting, yes, but she wasn’t an idiot. She could see clearly around her revenge. Maybe a few weeks ago she couldn’t, but now? Now, she saw everything a lot more clearly. Because of…

Dammit.

“Screw you, Hayden.”

She pushed off the ground into a sitting position, moving to stand up when Hayden’s hand closed around her throat, pulling her down to the ground again. His large form leaned over her, pushing her into the ground even as she gasped at the quick motions.

“I know this is hard to believe, Anna, but I’m looking out for you.” His knee moved between her thighs, most likely to hold his weight and not crush her, but she couldn’t help but notice the way it twisted her insides and sent a wave of heat flooding to her core. “I need you to trust me.”

“Trust you?” she scoffed, ignoring the way her voice sounded just a bit too husky. “Yeah, because you’re the king of letting people in. How about you trust me for a change?”

“I do trust you,” he answered without hesitation.

“Then why the hell are we having this conversation?”

He stared down at her. No, through her. He saw inside of her and it was… too much.

“I made a mistake,” she muttered. A big freaking mistake. “I never should’ve convinced myself there was something between us.”

A crease formed beneath his brows. “What are you talking about? Of course there’s something between us.”

She shook her head. “You are icy. And robotic, like your stupid little machines you play with. And freaking cold, all the damn time. To me and everyone else.” Sure, maybe he was a little more open around her, but that meant nothing if—

“I think you’re enough fire for the both of us, love.”

Her heart fluttered at him calling her love. He’d always done it, sure, but suddenly it made her feel… special. Hayden certainly didn’t call anyone else love, or any other term of endearment for that matter. “Let me up.”

“No.”

“Hayden, get off me.”

He pressed his body down even more on her, the feel of it sending shockwaves to every aching part of her. “No.” He leaned down, his face so close to hers she could feel the charged air that danced between them. “You want hot?” His lips brushed over hers. “I can do hot.”

She shivered, squeezing her thighs around his leg and then cursing herself when she saw him grin at her reaction. “Go fuck yourself,” she spat, desperately trying to keep control of the situation, even more desperately hoping he threw that same anger right back in her face. Damn, fighting with Hayden should not turn her on this much. That was a problem for another day, though.

He pressed his lips to hers, his tongue invading her mouth like it was created to do so. He kissed her with such skill that it had her toes curling, her back arching against him as she moaned into his mouth.

Anna swallowed a whimper when he pulled back. Something wicked danced in his gaze. “I’d rather fuck you.”

For a moment, all she could do was stare. Then she grabbed his face, meeting his lips and giving in to how badly she wanted him. She was a big, big fan of heated Hayden. Huge fan.

? ♥ ?

Anna’s body writhed beneath his own, every rock of her hips commanding that he rip their clothes off and take her. A part of him wanted to be gentle, wanted to savor every second with her, drag it out as long as he could. But that part of him didn’t stand a chance against the needy way Anna’s tongue met his own, her thighs squeezed his body, her nails dug into his shoulder blades.

Things would never be slow or careful with Anna. They’d always be fire and ice, fighting and passion, bursting with need and taking without hesitation.

Anna didn’t want him controlled.
