Anna didn’t much care for gossip, so she simply ate her food and said hi to anyone who approached her. Most of the night, she’d talked with Julia, though Rain and Sven had come over to say hello, as well. Anna had helped Rain after she’d been captured by Alan, and Sven was a fellow defector, obviously at home now with the Resistance.

Just as Anna was preparing to head out to find Hayden, she spotted Mason sitting alone, staring at the fire with a forlorn look on his face. Anna strode toward him, plopping down beside him and staring at the fire in silence for a few moments.

“They were wonderful people,” she finally said. “Austin. Liam. Laurie. Some of the best people I’ve known.”

Mason snorted. “You barely knew them.”

“I spent almost every day with Liam out on our scouting missions. He was kind, thoughtful, observant. Mature as hell.” Austin had joked with her, offered her food… it may have been small, silly even, but he’d been one of the first people to make her feel like she belonged. Like she had others she could relax with, be herself with, joke with. Laurie, she may not have grown close with, but she saw the way the woman mothered the group, the way she took care of them as if they were all her children.

She didn’t share all that, though, because Anna knew which death had broken Mason’s heart.

“He was a damn good kid.”

Anna patted his shoulder. “He’d be really proud of what we did.”

Mason turned to her, his face hard, almost as unreadable as Hayden’s. Well, as Hayden’s was. Now, she found it rather easy to read him. “He’d be even more proud of what we’re gonna do next.”

Anna smiled wide. “Hell yeah, he would be.”

She spent a few more minutes out there chatting with Mason, but when Rachel plopped down beside him, Anna saw herself out, leaving the two of them by the fire. It was… nice to have friends. Weird, but nice.

But Anna was on a mission, and she had to focus.

It took her about ten minutes to find Hayden’s place. A small, nondescript home attached to several others. Soldiers’ quarters, while the UNR still reigned here. Now, though? They belonged to whichever Resistance member had claimed them.

She let herself in, walking around the space and, to her disappointment, finding it empty. Releasing a sigh, she plopped on the bed, staring at the bar he’d handcuffed her to all those weeks ago.

He’d left her cuffed to that thing all damn night. Such a jerk.

Anna smiled, a wicked idea popping into her mind. She wondered if she could find those handcuffs anywhere…

? ♥ ?

It was awkward as hell sitting on a bed, naked, handcuffed to the headboard. Alone. And without the keys to get out of the damn cuffs. Anna hadn’t really thought this through, had she?

She better have had the right room. So help her if some stranger walked in on her like this and—

The door swung open, a worn-out looking Hayden striding through. She curved her back, moving into her sexiest pose and waiting.

It took him a moment to notice her, but then? His eyes met hers, instantly waking up as his body straightened. “Anna.” He sounded surprised. Concerned.

She gave him a coy smile. “Hayden. I can’t believe you cuffed me in your room and left me here all night.”

“I didn’t…” his voice trailed off as the realization hit. Anna squirmed just a little on the bed under his hot stare.

The wicked grin that pulled at his lips made her toes curl, and in a split second, he was on her.

Hayden’s head rested on her stomach while she played with his hair, gently brushing her fingers through it. She moved her hand to the side of his face, tracing over his scars, minding his stitches and making sure not to touch them.

“That was… something else.” She was still a little breathless. Her body still tingled. And anytime Hayden moved too quickly, she found her thighs squeezing together again, aftershocks of pleasure still making their way through her system.

“I’ve been fantasizing about that since the first night I tied you up in this room.”

Anna’s breath hitched. “I’d like to have seen that. You fantasizing, I mean.”

Hayden just grunted.
