“THAT’S ENOUGH!” I yell, raising my voice only to get her to stop ranting. When she gapes at me, I clear my throat and return my tone to a calmer level. “I just need you to hear me out. You don’t understand what I’m telling you yet. I was speaking the truth when I told you I’m not demolishing Bouquets. It won’t be closing, either. I need to make some heavy changes, but Bouquets will remain yours. It’s now outside the scope.”

She stares at me, clearly confused by what I’m saying.

She’s not throwing her arms around me, kissing or thanking me, but I don’t expect her to yet.

She remains stiff and still.

Then she turns her back on me.

Well, I didn’t expect this.

I stare at the back of her head in confusion until she finally speaks.

“I’ll believe it when I see it,” she whispers. “And can you blame me?”

I don’t blame her. I understand why she’s mistrustful. I started our relationship on the wrong foot. But I’m putting that right.

See if I don’t...

I move closer to her and slowly ease my arms around her waist. Despite everything, she doesn’t protest, but leans back against me, her head tipping back to rest against my shoulder. I think she’s a little overwhelmed at this point. I embrace her tightly, angling my head so that I can whisper into her ear.

“I’ll prove to you I mean what I say,” I assure her. “And I’ll show you Icanbe trusted. That’s a fucking promise.”

“Hope so.”

“I have to go, but I’ll be back tomorrow with my revised plans. My team is working on it as we speak.”

“Working on what, exactly?”

“A working solution.”

I turn her round and envelope her in my arms, kissing her goodbye. It’s hard and fast and as passionate a kiss as I’ve ever given. One hand wraps round the back of her head, anchoring her to me. The other is clamped tight on her ass as I grind the hardness of my body and mouth against the softness of hers. This is a moment she won’t forget too soon.

Neither will I.

When I pull away, she’s gasping and clearly aroused.

If that’s turned her on, it was meant to.

“Don’t go. Neal,please? I want you.”

“Hold that thought, baby.”

I leave before I dump her on the flower couch, kiss away the frown and fuck her to kingdom come. That’s what I might have done with a woman I wanted before Dani. But the stakes are far higher now.

I’ve got a job to do, the party comes later.
