Dani

Ifantasize about Neal night and day. I should charge him rent for the space he’s taking in my head.

Although he took my business card last week, I haven’t heard so much as a peep from him since. Every time my phone rings, I pathetically hope it’s him on the other end of the line.

I’m officially obsessed. A very sad little bitch.

But I can’t get past how my body reacted to his. How I heated like a torch with just one look. I’ve never felt that kind of thing before.

Not that my experience with guys is overly extensive.

I’m probably making far too much of a little flirting session.

I unlock the door of the shop and go inside. Parker and I had an early start to the day today. We were up at five a.m. to get the best deals and to stock up for Bouquets second week of business. I honestly love getting up at the crack of dawn and wandering round those stalls.

Parker isn’t so enamored. “That’s it, I’ve had enough,” Parker grumbles as he sets down the first of two big boxes of blooms I’ve purchased at the flower market.

“Enough of what, exactly?”

“Being a florist’s assistant.”

“Just wanna point out, youoffered to help me.I didn’t force you into it.”

“Maybe the last time I do that.”

“This is my dream. I totally understand it’s not yours.”

He rubs his hand round his bristly chin and lays the other on my shoulder. “Yeah, and dreams really do come true, don’t they? Gran would be so proud of you, Dani. And don’t worry, business will pick up soon. You need to allow a settling in period to build some custom. I’ve been checking your website analytics, and there’s a little activity on there—someone’s finding you, other than the Google bot.”

“Really?”

“Yep. It’s a start. And Rome wasn’t built in a day. Maybe you can stump up some advertizing cash when the business gets rolling.”

Things are slow but steady since the grand opening. I’d banked not nearly as much as I’d hoped, but enough to scrape by and replenish the stock. I have to be patient, keep my head in the game until things fall into place. Hopefully, that will happen soon.

I’m sure Gran is looking out for me from above. And with a guardian angel like her, I can’t fail. She won’t allow it.

Parker heads out the door to collect the remaining flowers from my little van.

I turn my attention to the box of flowers before me, unpacking the contents. Parker returns, placing the other box beside me. He drops on the sofa, grumbling about work and stuff, as I sort through things on the counter. Even grumpy, I’m still happy he’s here. I love seeing him, and I know he has a busy life of his own.

He spends a while talking to me while I work, and by nine a.m. I’m ready to open up shop. “Wanna get us some coffee from the cafe?” I suggest.

“Good idea. I’ll get myself a breakfast panini too. You want a takeout?”

“No, not for me, thanks. I’ll have some cereal. D’you mind eating there? Cheese and bacon doesn’t compliment the flowers. Just bring me back a coffee when you’re done.”

“Sure thing.” Parker needs no encouragement to leave and scoots out the door.

Ten minutes later, I’ve chowed my muesli and glugged a glass of water.

I’m standing in front of the counter, and behind me, the door opens with a jingle. It’s probably Parker. Even though I know it won’t be, I hope it’s Neal.

I whip round to look.

I gasp.

There in the doorway stands my man fantasy.
