“Most of the stuff here can take a heat cleaning, so at least, the entire kitchen is bacteria-free for now.”

Denier followed Brit to the casual table.

Denier paused. “Litha, what is your normal job?”

“When I am not babysitting actives? I am a researcher at Z-Tech. I specialize in physically required textiles. I know all about that.” She chuckled. “Aksalla has welcomed me with open arms. The capitol freaked out when I left. They considered me the weapon they wanted to hold in reserve.”

Brit grinned. “You are in Aksalla now?”

“Yeah, working on getting the new Z-Tech building up and running. My assistant is running things while I am here.”

Brit groaned softly. “These pancakes are great.”

Denier frowned. “Your assistant is an active?”

“Of course. Most of the Z-Tech employees are.”

Brit looked at Denier, and she snorted. “I think he is wondering if she works for Blind Date.”

Litha chuckled. “She’s in basic training for it. She’s a metabolic active. I don’t know if she is going to complete training, but she is going to try.”

Denier paused when he was halfway through his pancakes. “Why would females want to join the escort service if they don’t go into heat?”

Litha snickered. “Normal women crave sex just like men do. Active women run into the complication of their energy output being potentially dangerous or unappealing to partners. So, Blind Date makes the match so that the two complement or can at least not injure each other. Like Vallu’s activations.”

Denier frowned. “Her healing?”

“Her oak-breaking strength. She has it if she needs it, and Etgar doesn’t mind it.”

Denier blinked. “He didn’t mention that.”

She smiled. “He loves her, so it doesn’t matter. It is also comforting for him that if the bodyguards are overwhelmed, she can make her mark.”

Brit nibbled at her fruit. “You have a regular client?”

Litha nodded. “Yup. But, it is companionship only.”

Denier chuckled. “You don’t have those cravings?”

Brit looked as Litha’s face crumpled, and she turned and put the dishes away.

“Denier, she requires an astral class or higher.”

He paused. “Ah. I am sorry.”

“I went through two would-be lovers before I figured that one out. The third wanted to prove a point, and he lost his arms.”

Brit winced. “Your patron?”

“Right class, but his sexual preferences seem to drift to helpless females. Hero syndrome. My power profile is a turnoff.” Litha shrugged.

Denier frowned. “What class are you?”

“Nova.”

“Nova classes don’t survive activation.”

“They do if their parents guess correctly and plan ahead.” Litha smiled slightly. “Mine did, and after the most hellish week of my life, I walked out and survived. They took me home, and life resumed.”
