She reached out and grabbed his hand, linking their fingers together. When she glanced at him, he was staring at her with wide eyes.

“Are you okay?”

Jackson frowned. “I’m more worried aboutus.”

Ollie ignored that for a beat. “Seeing her again must have been rough.”

His eyes shuttered and Jackson nodded. “Definitely not what I wanted to be doing with my day.”

“For the record, we’re fine,” Ollie said, turning to face him. “But I want to make sure you’re okay.”

“I mean…I’m okaynow. But you’re right, seeing her again was hard and also very unpleasant,” Jackson said as he played with her fingers. “I told you saying her name out loud would conjure her.”

Ollie rolled her eyes and pulled her hand away to smack his thigh. “That’s ridiculous.”

Jackson laughed, the sound filling up her bedroom and Ollie smiled. She scooted closer to him and ran her thumb under his eyes. A soft sigh escaped him and he leaned in to rest his forehead against hers. They stayed like that for a minute before Jackson pressed a kiss to the corner of her mouth.

“I’m sorry about today,” he whispered against her skin.

“I know,” Ollie responded, pulling back to look into his eyes. “But we both need sleep, so go shower.”

Jackson nodded, kissed her fully on the mouth and then walked off to the bathroom, stripping his clothes off as he went. She crawled under the covers and curled up, waiting for him. While she believed him and everything that had happened, Ollie felt a twinge of something in her chest.

And it told her this was just the beginning of whatever was about to happen.
