“What do you want then?” Leo asked pensively.

Without skipping a beat, the man replied, “I want to take a look at the young whore you’ve been playing with.”

My body went cold; trepidation twisted inside me as my ears began to ring.

Then it happened so fast. The man barked more orders, Leo screamed curses as he twisted his body and covered mine, holding me down possessively. His blue eyes were wide as he searched mine, his face tense and angry—

“Leo?” I whispered, heart in my throat.

Hands grabbed at his shoulders, yanking at him. He held me tight, trying to shield me as Hunter jumped off the bed—

“No, no, no,” Hunter suddenly shouted. “Stop! Stop! Leo, they’ve got guns—”

Suddenly, Leo’s body was torn from mine by two men. He shouted, spitting curses, his face red and tense as Hunter stood naked beside the bed, his hands raised, his eyes wide and frantic. He kept screaming to stop, but I didn’t know who he was speaking to. I curled myself in a ball, wrapping my arms around my knees tightly.

“Get off the bed,” the man ordered. “Off now, or I’ll gut these men in front of you.”

My vision spotted and my body broke out in tremors. “I can’t move…I can’t move…” I wheezed out, the shock so great, I felt like I was hovering outside my body.

The covers were torn from my body, and a rough hand gripped my arm. Fingers digging deep in my flesh, I was pulled from the mattress in one swift move. I felt myself sliding off the mattress, my feet suddenly touching the cool floor. My body was weak, I could hardly stand if it weren’t for the hold on my arm keeping me upright. By reflex, my eyes shot to Leo’s, my face pleading for him to do something—to fix this.

“Let her go,” Leo demanded, but his voice fell on deaf ears as the men in the room continued to trash it.

There were three men in black, faces covered, except for their eyes and mouths. The man that was barking orders was the biggest—the leader, despite not carrying a weapon. I was very aware the man who was holding me had a gun in his other hand, and now my head swam, and my stomach churned. I was going to vomit—

The leader spoke in French again, and I wracked my brain trying to understand him. I’d taken French as a second language when I was young. But when you heard the language outside a school setting, it came out faster; too fast to comprehend at the same pace.

I continued to stare at Leo as they destroyed the room, and he stared back, his face twisting in agony. Please, do something, Leo.Because he always fixed things, no matter what they were.

Suddenly I was being dragged out of the room, and my panic lurched as I dug my bare feet into the floor, looking back, my gaze clinging to Leo—

“Leo!” I shrieked. “Leo,please…”

But Leo had a man in front of him, his gun raised to stop Leo from coming after me. His eyes locked to mine, and I saw the despair, the rage, the tremors in his body as he fought to contain himself.

“It’s okay,” he told me. “I’m coming, alright? I’m coming—”

I was out of the room and down the hallway. I heard his shouts, heard Hunter’s voice mixed in too.

Unable to hold myself up, my body collapsed to the ground. The man tugging on me cursed and wrapped his arm around my waist, forcing me down the stairs. I didn’t say a word, didn’t cry, didn’t plead. I simply panted heavily, my heart beating so hard it felt like it might burst from my chest.

He took me out of the cabin and threw me down on the wet earth. Then he aimed his gun at my head.
