Our ride was finally arriving. I saw the headlights in the distance. It was a familiar black car. I recognized it but couldn’t be too sure. I mean, maybe rich people owned many black cars. One for driving Leo to school. Another for picking up freshly released abductees and such. Nothing surprised me anymore.

The Itanis are not to be fucked with, Rick had said. And now I was so disturbed by it all.

As the headlights grew brighter, I felt wary, but too damn tired to make it far enough away if I tried to bolt.

The car stopped in front of us.

“Your ride,” Rick explained.

I was confused. “You’re…not coming?”

“I have another one coming. This one is specifically for you.”

Okay, this was worrying again. Maybe he traded me off to another guy to kill me, and he was just bullshitting me about letting me go. But the relief in his eyes couldn’t be faked. Rick looked genuinely happy to see me go.

“I’m sorry,” he apologized then. “I wouldn’t have killed you. I promise.”

“That’s fantastic,” I bit out, oozing sarcasm. “I’m really glad.”

Then I roughly opened the door and poked my head in, mentally preparing myself for another trap filled withwhatthefucks.

My eyes connected to Leo’s, and I nearly collapsed from shock.
