What a treasure he would have been to explore. She kept her voice low and said, “If you find the first man, have him come see me. Tell him Tempest wants to play.”

She twisted away and walked across the room, chin up and shoulders back.

“Fuck!” Rook mutteredafter his target left him standing alone in the middle of the room.

His cock throbbed. The ache born the second she’d taunted him with her observations. Every word she spoke drove his arousal higher and higher, culminating into a desperate burn when she leaned those curves against him.

No woman had caught and held his attention the way Tempest had in those last few moments. Rook was excellent at undercover work and never had anyone managed to break down his subtle changes before. To know she’d easily seen beneath his façade made her vastly more appealing.

Hahn snickered in his ear. “Crash and bomb. I can hear the fiery explosion from my position.”

Kjar joined in. “Hooked her the moment he walked in and still managed to lose her.”

Quiet, observant Dorian felt the need to speak. “She did imply he could try again.”

And he would. She wanted the real man, she’d get him. Rook Atrian fit his skin better than Roarke Callim anyway.

“Hunter One, you need to act quickly.” Kyele said calmly. “There are only a few hours left in the ball. If you can’t convince her to join you in your suite, we’ll switch to our secondary plan.”

The goal was to take her back to base for questioning. The second option was to take her out before she could leave tonight.

“I can do it. She’ll be wrapped around me in less time than enemy insertion.”

“I hope it’s not a water insertion,” Kjar joked, causing Hahn to laugh.

It wasn’t a secret that missions in water were his weakness. So much that Kyele didn’t send him as lead on assignments where water was involved. Rook knew how to swim but childhood trauma left him with a phobia that could send him in a panic without the slightest warning.

“She’s with Ahati, a smuggler in rare jewels and known womanizer. They’re heading for the exit,” Kjar reported, all traces of humor dropped as he reengaged.

Rook glanced around casually and saw the couple. Awareness increased his focus as he made his way in their direction. “I have target in my sight. Moving in.”

Being himself was as easy as slipping on his favorite boots. Rook lengthened his stride, dropped his shoulders and allowed the desire from her brief touch to build inside. His cock pressed determinedly against the placket of his pants, his heart thrummed an increased beat and his focus narrowed on the woman tossing her head back and laughing at the man beside her.

If he let her leave with Ahati, he’d lose his chance to get her alone and make their efforts more difficult. Rook altered his path to intersect theirs. He blocked them with a simple step, barring the way to the door.

Tempest noticed him first. Her gaze jerked up then she stilled. Ahati continued talking, oblivious to the danger Rook represented. It wasn’t until he tugged on her arm to keep moving that he noticed Rook. The annoyed look in his eyes didn’t match the fake grin he tossed Rook’s way. “Pardon us, we’re leaving, mate.”

Rook ignored him. Keeping his gaze on Tempest, his mouth curved in a cynical smile. He reached up and cupped her jaw, tilted her head to stare directly into her eyes. “Someone told me to come see you.”
