He struggled to clear the red haze from eyes.

“Luna needs you,” Luke added.

He shook himself free, and found her. She was standing with Hugo crying. Opening his arms, he caught her as she ran at him.

“It’s okay now.” She was shaking. Or maybe that was him. Adrenaline still charged through his veins.

“He hurt you, let me see.” She tried to pull back, but he wouldn’t let her go.

“Soon, right now, I need to hold you. Your note freaked me out, and just so we’re clear, nothing to do with you is a bridge too far for us to cross, or even meet in the middle,” Nash said, remembering the words she’d written in her note. “I don’t want to live without you.”

“You don’t mean that.” She pushed at his chest, so he released her reluctantly, but only far enough that he could look at her.

“Luna.” He felt like she was suddenly miles away from him. His head was light, and his body was swaying.

“You can have this discussion after he’s been looked at,” Fin said. “Maggs will be here soon and—”

“Nash!”

“Too late,” Fin added.

“Oh my God, you’re bleeding!” Maggie shrieked.

“I’m all right, Tigger. Just my arm.” Nash tried to calm her down and keep hold of Luna.

“There’s a lot of blood on your shirt,” Luna whispered.

Nash looked down at his body, and then he felt like the ground was moving beneath his feet.
