“One what?” Luna squeaked as his head lowered, and then his lips were on hers.

Every thought was obliterated as his mouth took hers. Hot, heavy heat flooded into her as the basket slipped from her hand and fell to the floor.

“I knew you’d taste like this.” He whispered the words against her lips, then kissed her again.

Luna moved closer, needing the contact, and wound her arms around his neck. His hand went to her back, large and hot, holding her close. The other gripped her side, his thumb just inches from her breast. It ached for his touch.

His tongue stroked hers, and where one kiss stopped, the next started. A loud noise had him easing back, his hands still holding her. Eyes heavy with passion, he then lowered his hands and stepped back.

“See you round, Luna McKinley.”

“’Kay,” she managed to wheeze out, watching as he turned to walk away from her. “Nash!”

He turned to look at her. “Yeah?”

“You need to go to the chocolate shop opening.”

“Why?”

“Because that guy is nice, and he’s worried no one will come, and the Robbins sisters have an entire town in their corner. All that, plus you don’t care what people think of you, and you owe me.” She couldn’t believe she was talking to him as if he’d not just given her the most intense kiss she’d ever had.

“So, what, you’ve been in town about two days and suddenly you’re all community minded?”

“Albert is a nice man.”

His lips twitched. “I’ll think about it.”

Then he walked away, and she just stood there, hand pressed to her lips, trying to work out what the hell just happened. They’d hated each other this morning; now there was no hate inside her for Nash Winter, but a whole lot of other stuff.

Looking around, she noted there was still no one in the aisle. Clearly the health food section was the best one to make out in.

Luna bought her things, had a photo with the owner of the grocery store outside, and then walked back to her car. Passing the vet, she saw a picture of the pony Nash had found on his property in the window. Luna really wanted to see it but knew that wasn’t happening. In fact, after that kiss, it was a good move to keep her distance from that man.

“Will you be here for the carnival?”

The woman who stood in front of her store was Mrs. L, which was an abbreviation for something that Charlie had told her and Luna couldn’t remember. Her eyelashes sparkled with glitter, and she wore a bright pink T-shirt with a diamante heart on the front. Her leggings were lemon-and-black striped.

“Nice shirt.”

“I have more in the store if you’d like one. On the house, but I’d like a photo with us wearing them if that’s okay?”

“Ah, sure.” The place was chock-full of stock. There was no clear path to anywhere.

“Mrs. L, what are you doing to Luna?”

Rory was up a ladder. She remembered the woman was Jack Trainer’s girl.

“She wants a shirt like mine and a picture of both of us, which you can take.”

“So, you asked her if she wanted one and bullied her into the picture?” Rory said.

“It’s okay,” Luna said, lowering her shopping bags. “Are you guys going to the opening of the chocolate place?”

Mrs. L shot Rory a look. “We can’t,” she said before hurrying out the back of her store.

“Why?”

“The Robbins sisters,” Rory said.
