‘He was into old films too?’

‘Yes, he was.’ As she fed the old reel through, she felt an irrational urge to apologise. ‘I didn’t mean to go through Daphne’s things. I just found them at the back of the airing cupboard and, well, curiosity got the better of me. This one, in particular, will interest you.’

‘Why?’

‘You’ll see.’

Carys raised her eyebrows. ‘Has this got something to do with the argument you were having with Albert?’ She paused. ‘Who is Joyce, by the way?’

Abigail joined Carys on the sofa, where Ulysses was already ensconced next to his new friend. She was idly stroking the little head on her lap.

‘Let’s watch the home movie first.’ Abigail thought it better to tell her what she knew after Carys had seen the movie with her own eyes. She was interested to see her reaction. To see if Carys saw what she, Lili and Joss had seen when they watched the movie and spotted the startling resemblance Toby had to the Somervilles.
