‘Has he lived in the area long? Do you think he’d be able to tell me anything about Daphne?’
‘No, I don’t think so. Ray could look into her background, see what he could dig up. He hasn’t lived here long. He retired here. Well, it was his soon-to-be ex-wife who retired here first. They’ve split up, but he wants her back.’
‘So, he followed her here.’
‘Yes.’
‘How’s that going?’ Abigail said sceptically.
‘Not great, at first. You know he used to run the art shop in Cobbler’s Yard just as an excuse to see her every day, but since she sold The Potting Shed to me and he became sort of famous, he didn’t have time to run the shop and deal with the demands of his heir-hunting business.’
‘Ah, yes, he discovered the secret of The Summerhouse.’
Lili smiled. ‘Not something you forget in a hurry.’
‘I’ll say,’ Abigail retorted.
Lili changed the subject. ‘Look, I’ll make the arrangements. Go see him. If nothing else, it would give you an excuse to see his houseboat – it’s pretty cool.’
