“I am.” She grasps my head, turning it to look at the numbers on the wood. “Which this is not.” Somehow we only went to four. Uncaring, I scoop her up, run for the stairs at the end of the corridor, and hot foot it up a set.

“Impressive,” she applauds my stamina.

“This bodes well for me.”

“How so?” She inquires as her fingers thread through my hair. It’s a little longer than normal and will remain so until closer to the start of the school year when I’ll get it cut.

“If speed impresses you,” I respond, “than you’ll love what happens next. I won’t be able to go slow the first time.”

“Good.” Thankfully, that’s when we reach the correct door, the card works on my initial attempt, and I kick it closed before heading to my bed.

I set Isabel down and watch as she removes her sundress, leaving her in a bikini, while I yank off my shirt and stand there in my swim trunks. “You sure?”

“I want you.” Not exactly what I asked, but it’s still the answer I need.

My inexperience no doubt shows as we get on the bed, but she doesn’t seem fazed, or put off, by it. In fact, as she lifts her feet to push my trunks off, I can feel the tremors in them as they skim my thighs. She’s nervous, too.

“I don’t know what I’m doing.”

Once we’re both naked, Isabel releases a shaky breath and confirms what I suspected. “I don’t either. You’ll by my first.”

I’ll be your only, I want to vow, but I don’t. I have to literally bite my tongue to stop from saying it and the pain jars me back to reality. If I demand that claim, the moment might be lost. Too much too soon.

“And you’ll be mine.” Isabel smiles, smugly. “Good,” she repeats her earlier statement, then kisses me. Better than good, I think to myself. You’re perfect.
