I want you to know I am sorry.

I want you to know I believe in you. I have faith in you. So much, that I don’t need to be here to see you fill the empty space we leave in everyone’s hearts. There’s no one else more suited than you to occupy it.

Flint and I are in a good place, but we suspect you know that too.

We hope to one day see you all again.

But not too soon.

Live. Fly. Follow your heart.

What you want matters.

There is something I say often to your siblings. Something it took losing you to understand the importance of—family first, mija, and you can’t go wrong.

Love Mary and Flint.

P.S.

(In Flint’s handwriting.)

Give everyone a goodbye hug for us.

So Daisy put down the letter and went, one by one, to embrace her siblings. She closed her eyes and inhaled their unique scent. Tears were shed. Then she went back and sat on the floor. They were silent for a while, then Daisy spoke.

“I’m a little sad I won’t get to learn some of these things Mary taught you all.”

Wyatt waved his letter. “I can teach you to cook her Jerk Chicken.”

“I’ll teach you how to fight like her,” Liza added.

One by one they all offered to share something they’d learned from Mary—and Flint—and it warmed Daisy’s heart.

After it was all said and done, Sloan asked Daisy. “So what now?”

Daisy looked at Parker, but he waited patiently for her to speak. Right. This was her thing now. She stood up, cleared her throat and said in all seriousness, “I hear the Mayor has pardoned us.”

“That’s right,” Liza added with a shrug. “He’s even officially extended an offer for us to work with the city to keep crime at bay.”

“Well then,” Daisy said. “I guess it’s time to go and live our lives. However we feel they should be lived. If you want to keep fighting, keep fighting. Or…” She glanced down at her letter. “Follow your heart.”
