I wait for about twenty minutes until I hear soft sounds escaping her mouth as she sleeps peacefully.
“Parker?” I call out.
When she doesn’t reply, I know she’s really sleeping, so I carefully reach over and take her phone.
I swipe the screen open and quickly go into her call log to see it empty. There’s not one call. Did she erase it? No one’s call log is ever empty unless she is particular about keeping it that way.
I’m fucking losing it.I’m definitely losing my mind.
Trying to be perfectly still, I reach over and place her phone back on the dashboard exactly where she left it.
Tapping my fingers against the wheel, I think back to that night with Lily when I was high and climbed in through her window thinking I could fuck her one last time. When I woke up again, I woke up to the sight of her laying in bed with her skin all pale. And the blood. It was everywhere. I can still taste the metallic on my tongue.
Fuck, I couldn’t do this now.
I took a deep breath knowing that if I think about it any longer I am going to be sick. My heart pounds in my ears.Fuck. What the fuck is wrong with me?
“Hey.” Parker shifts beside me. “Are we there yet?”
I clear my throat and focus on the road ahead. “Yeah, we’re almost there.”
“Thank you,” she says, sitting up and kissing my shoulder.
“What for?” I ask, shifting uncomfortably.
“For all of this,” she whispers. “Thank you for being amazing. I think I really needed this.”
“You’re welcome.”
We spend the next half hour driving to Athens and I finally make myself believe that maybe Parker isn’t lying about the phone call. Maybe I’m just getting too paranoid. Whoever was trying to fuck with me though will have something else to worry about entirely when I do find them.
